2. Super Combined This event consists of two runs, one would be downhill and the other would be a slalom run . This is actually not the traditional way of doing the super combined the actual way would be to one run of downhill (the same as usual ) and then two runs of the slalom. Alpine skiing made its first appearance at the 1936 Olympics the super combined being the only one out of the usual 5 events . The world skiing cup in 2005 was one by Austria s Benjamin Reich . The first women s race was held 6 weeks after the men s race was held , the winner of that being Janice Kostelic of Croatia . And she went on to win another 3 medals at the games . The 2010 Olympic medalists were in the mens event gold to Bode Miller of America , silver to Kostelic of Croatia and bronze to Zurbriggen of Switzerland . Gold – mariaReish Germany Silver – Julia Mancuso USA Bronze – Anja Parson Sweeden .
3. Slalom. The rules of slalom (modern) were developed by Sir Arthur Lunn in 1922 at the British skiing championship. The rules for the slalom would be that if you miss a gate you will automatically be disqualified from the race and you have to wear smaller skis to get passed each pole most skis now days would be around 160 cm+ you would also have to wear shin protection and a helmet The medalists were GiulianoRazzoli. The silver medal went to IvicaKostelic and the bronze medal went to Andre Myher of Sweden . MarliesSchild (AUT who got silver Maria Riesch (GER) who got gold ŠárkaZáhrobská (CZE) whi got bronze
4. Giant Slalom the giant slalom was first introduced at the 1950 world skiing championship in Colorado and was first introduced at the 1952 in Oslo and from then on it was a big hit . The course would normally be around 250 to 450 in metres for the men down the course and 250 metres to 400 m for the women . The skis would be shorter than the ones in the super g event but bigger than the ones in the slalom event and that would be 185 inches for the men and around 180 for the women . The medallists were gold for Carlo Janka silver for KjetilJansrudsnd bronze to Askel Lund Svindal . ViktoriaRebensburg (GER) who got gold Tina maze – who got silver Liz Goergl – who got bronze .
5. Downhill This event was first invented by the very famous Sir Arnold Lunn in the 1921 world championships . It came such events like snowboarding and mountain boarding as the phrase downhill means going down a hill at a decent speed . The downhill dicipline involves the greatest speed and movements therefore making it a very risky event , and the speeds can go up to 93mph and that is fast . The gates are made in different colours so it will be easy to be able see say in a fog. The gates are also made to not be to far away but to not be in sight of each other . The skis are 30% bigger than the slalom course skis for more stability at high speeds . The will wear tight ski clothing to minimise the amount of drag . For safety reasons the skis actually got reducd to 215cm for men and 210 for the womens races . The course must be at least 1 minute long for the course to be made a course , and the times would be around 1 minute 30 -2minutes 30 . The risk is very big and in the world championship a man called SilvanoBeltrametti was paralyzed in a crash going down at full speed . The medallists were gold to Didier Defago of Switzerland silver to Askel Lund Svindal of Norway and bronze to Bode Miller of the USA. This event was definetly one of the best turnouts of the games The womens medals were lindseyvaughn and Julia mancuso both of USA and then Bronze to Liz gorgl of Austria .
6. The Super g ! Picture of the Super G This event is one of the hardest if not the hardest the reason why is because that you only have 1 try and 1 try to impress only, so there are no training runs you go straight into it . The competitors will have to memorise the course from every jump to every ripple. To be legal the mens skis must be at least 205cm long and the womens must be 200cm long. The super G is basically downhill mixed with slalom , the speed and determination of downhill and the technicality and the turning skills of slalom . This is a relatively knew invented by the FIS commite a few years a go and has become a very competitive event since . The event has less turns that the slalom course but it is still very tricky and speedy. The medallists are gold to AskellundSvindal second to bode miller bronze to Andrew Weibrecht of USA . Andrea Fishbacher - who got gold Tina maze –who got silver Lindsey Vonn – who got bronze
