1. Phi Mu’s Fashion Show Uses Couture for a Cause
The sisters of Phi Mu held their annual faculty/staff fashion show on Thursday, November 8th in Renner
Too. The show raised money for Children’s Miracle Network via raffles, concessions, and cash votes for
contestants. Professors and staff “strutted their stuff” down the runway in a spirited competition.
Sophomore McKenna Junkin hosted the show and Senior J’von Watts DJ’d the event. Categories of dress
included formalwear, casualwear, and a personal pick from each of the contestants. Some of the more
memorable contestants were: Professor Fletcher, who dressed as a “nerd” for his personal pick; the
dynamic duo Renee Stock and Carol Tyler dressed as a surgeon and nurse; and last year’s competition
winners, swimming coaches David Dow and Heather Fairchild, sported fun beachwear for their casual
entry. However, the ultimate winner of the competition was the team entry of Stephanie Gordon, Aaron
Anslow, and Heather Taylor. Stephanie looked elegant in the formalwear category. Aaron Anslow wore a
casual outfit covered in clay, and Heather Taylor was escorted by two members of Sigma Nu in her work
wear. The many people at the Fashion Show thoroughly enjoyed the festivities. “I really liked it! It was
entertaining, and it’s for a good cause. It’s neat to see professors outside of the classroom,” said
attendee Amanda Nielsen. Overall, the women of Phi Mu raised over $200 for the philanthropy.
Light Up Night Brings Bethany Clubs Together For an Evening of Holiday Celebration
Bethany’s second annual Light Up Night took place on November 29th- just in time for the holiday
season. Over 100 students, faculty, and staff gathered in Commencement Hall for the festivities. The Old
Main fountain was illuminated with white luminaire bags donated by campus organizations, such as I
Am That Girl and National PanHellenic Council. Commencement was lighted by the many Christmas
trees that were inside, over twenty in all. The trees, decorated by various campus sports teams, Greek
organizations, clubs, and private donors, were auctioned off throughout the evening. This year, some
aspects of the program were improved upon. For example, a second “kid’s tree” raffle was presented.
Children won mini Christmas trees with whimsical themes ranging from tea parties to toy trains.
Spectators enjoyed carols led by the communication department’s Dr. Smith. A Kwanzaa story was
presented by Princess Serrano. Pasha Bin spoke about the Muslim holiday traditions. Carol Tyler shared
Hanukkah stories with the crowd, and Allison Snyder spoke about the origin of Christmas. Bethanians
enjoyed hot cocoa and cookies as they reigned in the holiday season together, and it truly seemed like
the most wonderful time of the year.
