4. This tree-planting scheme was set up in 2002, when two charities, The Society of Homeopaths Trust
Company and Friends of Homeopathy amalgamated to form Homeopathy Action Trust. It is symbolic
of the Trust putting down its roots and a long term project which will give joy and satisfaction for
years to come. In growing and maturing, it will provide a focus for awareness rising with different
groups of people.
The Homeopathy Action Trust invited Northamptonshire County Council to manage the project. The
Trust provides the main ‘gateway’ for sponsorship and the Council plants and manages the trees for
life, using organic principles. The wood is growing at Sywell Country Park in Northamptonshire and
there is space at this site for several years yet. After that they’ll be looking for other sites. For map
and directions, see below.

NCC is committed to improving the local environment through partnership working and this is
an exciting first step on what they hope is a highly successful project. It could be invaluable
4
Here are quotes from the two organizations:
The vision behind the wood is that they will individually and collectively grow our very own
homeopathy wood. All trees in the native wood will be related to homeopathic remedies. As
well as providing pleasure for many and opportunities for raising awareness, they will be
helping the environment. - Mary Clarke, first Executive Director of Homeopathy Action Trust.
5. for environment promotion, education and increased awareness locally and nationally. It
could also act as a model for others in both education and enhancement of a natural
resource. - Jason Longhurst, Natural Environment Team leader, Northamptonshire County Council.

The first planting was in December 2002, when over 600 individually sponsored trees were planted.
A further 230 trees were planted in December 2003 and in winter 2004 & 2005 a further 185,
making over 1000 in all. See below to find out more about the species planted in the native wood,
and the specimens in the arboretum. The scheme is open to everyone, whether local to the wood or
nationally. People choose to mark many occasions with tree planting. Success in examinations for
example or birth or marriage or other special occasions such as wedding anniversaries, birthdays,
engagements. The trees are planted in the winter, the optimum planting time- you may come along
to help dig them in on the day. You can plant an individual tree for £20, or a tree clump (3-5 trees)
for £50.

8. HAT has funded two homeopaths who trained at the London School of Classical Homeopathy to
work in various hostels for the homeless owned by the charity St. Mungo’s. Thelma West had
already been volunteering at two hostels for homeless people in London and decided to apply for
funding in the hope of spreading this work a little wider. She currently visits one hostel for men only,
and one mixed hostel. Claire Brock well has started work at a women’s refuge on a fortnightly basis.
“Thanks to HAT for starting us off on a project that is already proving to be very exciting,”- says
Thelma.
Page
8
Both Claire and Thelma have found that homeopathy is very helpful to people typically presenting
with insomnia, anxiety and digestive problems in these situations. Further, government cuts will
reduce the numbers of permanent staff who help residents suffering from addictions- another area
where homeopathy has proven helpful- making the work of Thelma, Claire and those like them all
the more important.
10. Debbie Partridge and Lucy Patrick (pictured above, left and right) have set up a low cost clinic to
promote and encourage easy access to homeopathy for staff, students and families linked to Exeter
University.
Page
Lucy writes- “Our first six months promoting homeopathy at Exeter University, thanks mainly to the
funding from HAT, has been a positive experience. The main things they have achieved during this
time-span:
1. A weekly presence (stall) in a very visible, central area of the University (the foyer in the Students
Guild).
2. An ongoing weekly drop in for staff and students in a confidential environment.
3. Ongoing networking with relevant staff members of the University, mainly the Sports Centre
wellness Officer and the new overall wellness Manager.
4. Stalls at University well-being events such as the wellbeing Fayre and Valentines Fair at the
beginning of the year.
5. Evening introductory sessions to students in their halls of residence as part of the Healthy Halls
program.
10
Building on the successful practice of a previous on-campus homeopath, the clinic aims to provide a
secure, friendly and confidential environment in which Lucy and Debbie, both qualified homeopaths,
deliver comprehensive homeopathic treatment, including remedies.
11. 6. Treatment both chronic and acute of staff and students.
7. Networking with other health professionals linked to the University.
8. An agreement with the Students Guild who will endorse our activities next year.
9. Working towards being part of the new wellbeing Clinic being set up on campus next year.
Evolving a working partnership with a fellow homeopath.
10. The instigation of a new “University survival” basic homeopathy course over 3 weeks at the
Sports Hall.

The Homeopathy Action Trust awarded £750 for this project.
13. “As word of our results spreads, people are coming from far and wide asking us to open
clinics in their villages… To sustain the project and maintain growth they are running a
number of education and farm projects. This is challenging work that needs all the support it
can get”- Jeremy Sherr.
HAT has continued to support ‘Homeopathy for Health in Africa’ (HHA) – a project set up by Jeremy
and Camilla Sherr for patients with AIDS in Africa. Started in Tanzania in 2008, the project has helped
over 1500 patients with AIDS, malaria and a range of other diseases using homeopathy to great
effect.
Page
13
The HHA project now includes ten village clinics plus a hospital clinic. Most of the patients are taking
conventional medicines including anti-retroviral treatments. Complementary homeopathy and other
welfare initiatives are proving highly effective. With malnutrition as a major issue among patients,
several food projects and vegetable gardens have also been initiated with HAT’s support.
15. They, together with Homeopaths without Borders, are working to help to realize the dream of our
Ghanaian partner, homeopath Julius Berdie, whose vision is the establishment of a first class
Page
A New Training Institution
They are celebrating the Project’s 5th birthday this year and there have been some exciting
developments. Angie Metzger visited Ghana last October and had the opportunity to meet at the
ministry for Traditional and Alternative Medicine to discuss the development of homeopathy in
Ghana and the role of the Ghana Homeopathy Project in offering professional education programs
together with our local partner Julius Berdie and ‘Homeopaths Without Borders’. The response has
been very encouraging and they are working towards fulfilling the required criteria.
15
Initially offering simple first aid in a small rural village they have developed and grown into a
teaching and clinical project led by the initiatives of our Ghanaian partners. The generosity of
volunteers has fuelled our inspiration to support homeopathy as an affordable and sustainable
healing method. They receive many enquiries from all over the world and during the past year they
recruited 6 volunteers to support our work in Ghana. These experienced homeopaths generously
donated their time and funds to take part in this worthwhile venture to travel to Ghana and work
there with our local affiliates. All volunteers have come back with many stories to tell and a deep
experience of sharing between cultures. They have published some of our volunteers’ reports on
our website: www.ghanahomeopathy.org
16. homeopathic training institution in Ghana. They now have premises, located just outside Accra, with
several classrooms, a clinic room, a library, and 15 students! The new institution has been registered
as the Premier International Institute of Homeopathy and Natural Health, the name chosen by the
Ghanaian teachers and students.
Page
They are now planning to use modern communications technology to create web seminars and
Skype teaching as well as mentoring for the Ghanaian students. This way they can bring in the
teaching and clinical skills of homeopaths throughout the world to share our knowledge and love of
homeopathy with the Ghanaians.
16
In Ghana, to establish a new tertiary institution, it is required to go through an in depth accreditation
process, under the guidance of the National Accreditation Board- whilst the new school is overseen
by a mentor institution. The Contemporary College of Classical Homeopathy
(http://www.conhom.com) has kindly stepped in to fulfill this essential function, which will take 5
years to complete. They will support the curriculum planning and quality assurance of the local
Ghanaian educational institution. The shared goal is to create a first class institution to train the
future Ghanaian homeopaths. This will indeed be a first in Western Africa. They have sent books,
remedies and volunteer teachers. They are planning to bring together theory and practice by
organizing field trips for our students to the rural clinics as part of our clinical training program.
17. Page
Research
Thanks to, the donations they received from Homeopathy Action Trust, they plan to initiate a
research program working with our Ghana partners. They would like to look at the effectiveness of
homeopathy in the area of mental health. Tertiary institutions in Ghana are encouraged to engage in
research, so this project will be based at the new college. They plan to seek help from The
Homeopathy Research Institute to develop good protocols for the research.
17
College Administrator And Homeopathic Student Mr. Frederick Ajblor
‘Homeopathy treats the whole person, not the pathology. When I discovered homeopathy, I
immediately wanted to study it to the highest level. They want people to help us, come and teach,
donate books remedies and funds. They will make you very welcome. Right now they plan to offer
free access courses teaching ‘homeopathy in the home’, so that people from all walks of life can
experience homeopathy for themselves.” They are looking for experienced teachers to volunteer to
go to Ghana to teach the student group following our established curriculum. They are also seeking
help to establish the online training aspect, people with knowledge of communications technology,
who can help set up webinars, teach via Skype, mentor students etc. To develop the school further
they seek funding support to continue with the groundbreaking work and to offer bursaries to
students. They are looking for computers, books and remedies.

Kumasi Resource Centre
Last autumn they gratefully accepted the opportunity to ship over 1000 books that were so
generously donated by homeopaths from all over the world to Ghana. In Kumasi, with our partner
Bonsu Boaten, they have opened a resource library of homeopathic books for the alternative health
community and clinic. Our intention is to open for patients there as well as starting courses in
homeopathy for interested health workers. They plan to use online training in Kumasi also, with
computers based at the new centre. This way, students from Kumasi can cover part of their training
19. in Kumasi and part at the Accra Institute. They also would like to place a longer term volunteer in
Kumasi to facilitate clinics and training there.
Mafi Seva Clinic
Another branch of our work is the support of clinics within an integrated health care centre
managed by Clinical Director ‘Emperor’ in the rural area of the loweyr Volta region. Patients come
regularly to the clinic requesting homeopathy as word of mouth of healing has spread. With the
support of our donors, Emperor went on a further training course to Kolkata to enhance his
prescribing skills. He is engaged in regular supervision with Sheila Ryan in the U.K., they are also
supporting trainee village based homeopath Pastor John with supervision by UK homeopath Ingrid
Daniels and a small financial donation to help with local expenses in providing clinics for patients on
low incomes. They are honored having received an Outstanding Achievement Award from the
Society of Homeopaths rewarding the work by the Ghana team here in the U.K. and abroad.

Frontline Homeopathy/Homeopathy Action Trust awarded £10,000 and makes additional funds
available as they are donated for this project.
21. In 2012 the Swaziland Homeopathy Project received a further sum of £600 from HAT and this is
being used in the establishment of 5 new community outreach clinics which are now managed by
the trainee homeopaths. These community clinics are entirely organized by the students in order to
assist them in learning to develop sustainable outreach clinics and good practice management skills.
The student homeopaths have formed an Association and are managing the funds received from
their clinics. Those attending clinical training regularly are taking “the case” under supervision,
repertorising and making good prescriptions.
In May, 2012, six of the students accompanied by Barbara Braun, Jeannette Adair and Peggy Bide
attended the first Pan African Homeopathy Congress held at 4Kenia homeopathy school, at Kwale

In December 2012 the annual summer school was conducted by Ellen Kramer, the Principal of the
London College of Practical Homeopathy. This forms part of collaboration with the Maun
Homeopathy Project. Three students from Botswana and Joseph Msumba from Malawi also
travelled a great distance to join the Swazi students. SHP was privileged to be able to host a UK
based teacher who also has experience with homeopathic clinics in Ghana.

Swaziland” and a presentation on the project’s research and data base results. Overall, this was a
hugely inspiring, educational and stimulating event and all the students who attended came away
with a sense of belonging to something much greater than just Swaziland’s effort to provide
homeopathy to those in need. This has been demonstrated by a greater commitment by these
students to the project and they have now obtained land from a local chief of the community on the
outskirts of Mbabane. The aim is to build a permanent centre to sustain the project’s clinics and
further training initiatives.

Homeopathy for Addictions Director Tracey Woodward Gagetta, BA, BSc,
LCHE, MARH has been working in the field of substance misuse for over 5years in the UK and Canada. She recently finished a post as Performance
Commissioner for the NHS in Northeast London and previously worked as a
specialist working with women and as safeguarding lead for two charities.
Her bespoke Tauto-Mod™ titration system, specifically developed to treat
the symptoms of cravings, withdrawal and toxicty in substance misuse is
currently subcontracted by one of the leading drug service providers Turning
Point in Weminster starting April 2013.

7. Homeopathy for Addictions
24. The addictions pilot project was small scale consisting of 12 individuals prescribing for drug, alcohol,
poly drug use and dual diagnosis cases for alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, and crack and heroin
addiction. It commenced mid-summer 2012 and was funded by the Homeopathy Action Trust and
Helios Homeopathy. This pilot project ran at the Perry Clayman Project and Slough Homeless Our
Concern day shelter. Patients received treatment from 6 to 10 weeks. But it depended on time in
residential facility or attendance of homeless shelter.
During the initial consultation, a full comprehensive assessment took place. The patient would then
be assessed using the Tauto-ModTM titration system and prescribed for depending on severity of
symptoms. Every week the patient would attend a follow-up appointment lasting from 30 minutes
to 1-hour, in which time the tautopathy system would be re-assessed, recorded and prescribed for
(if applicable). Depending on other health issues, particularly mental health, the patient would also
be prescribed other medications.

8. A handbook for homeopaths working
with patients with mental health
problems
26. This handbook has been developed as a resource for homeopaths, particularly those who are
working outside of the conventional healthcare system. The information it contains is drawn from
people with expertise in the field of mental healthcare, both conventional, and homeopathic. It is
not designed to help improve the quality of your homeopathic prescribing; it is concerned purely
with case management issues and will suggest strategies for dealing with challenging situations in
practice. This handbook will not help you to become an expert in the field of mental health. Please
refer to the information here alongside your professional code of ethics and practice and remember
to seek advice whenever you feel out of your depth.
The Trustees of the Homeopathy Action Trust would like to express their gratitude to all those who
have given freely of their time to input into this handbook. Thank you to the practitioners and the

9. Homeopathy Cancer Support Project
29. The Homeopathy Cancer Support Project is a one-year study funded by Homeopathy Action Trust
and based in Hampshire. It provides two types of homeopathic support:
1. For the side effects of conventional cancer treatments: chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery,
using therapeutic combinations specially designed for the study.
2. An individualized three-month holistic health boost for users following their conventional cancer
treatment.
Page
Clinical Homeopath and Chartered Psychologist, Jennifer Poole reports: ‘It has been extremely
rewarding working with both users and WCT volunteers and they are also developing valuable
insight into how best to deliver this type of support in the future’.
29
The Project is open to anyone receiving conventional cancer treatment for any type of cancer.
Working closely with volunteers at Wessex Cancer Trust (WCT) and other local health organizations,
the project is gathering user-centered ratings of effectiveness in each category of support. To date
there has been a good response from users, particularly for the health boost option which combines
emotional and physical aspects for each participant.
30. This Project will continue until July 2013. The Final Report will be available from September 2013.
