USING THE PICTURE BOOK
1. Topics in The Picture Book can be followed in order or you can pick any topic of interest.
2. Teachers should always model correct pronunciation of the Hebrew questions, phrases and
vocabulary when introducing a topic using a whole language approach. A picture depicts the
meaning of the Hebrew word rather than a translation. The emphasis is on speaking and
experiencing spoken Hebrew rather than on reading. For this reason, The Picture Book can be
used by readers and non-readers.
3. Where possible, the items for the topic can be brought into the classroom to bring the
conversation alive, using an ulpan style.
