2. WHAT IS A MEDIA INSTITUTION?
A media institution is an established profit based
organisation that deals with the creation and distribution
of advertising, entertainment and information services.
During this presentation I am going to look at a couple of
media distribution companies and show which company
might distribute my product.
3. BAUER MEDIA GROUP
Bauer Media Group is a multinational media company that operates in
sixteen
countries worldwide. It is privately owned and under management by the
Bauer
family.
It has subsidiary companies of Bauer Radio and Box Television (50% stake)
Bauer Media is know for quite a few famous brands such as the music
channel '4 Music', and local radio stations 'Viking FM' and 'Hallam FM'.
But Bauer also distributes a few Britain's most well known music
magazines such as 'Kerrang', 'Mojo' and 'Q’. Because Bauer distribute
these existing magazines, I don’t feel as though they would want to
distribute my product because they won’t want to challenge the existing
pool of magazine and audiences.
But if Bauer were to distribute my product ‘Anthem’, I feel they that they
would be reliable in turning a profit every week because of their
international connections and there huge audiences across the globe.

FAMOUS BRANDS SUCH AS THESE 5 SHOW BAUER’S DOMINANCE IN THE
MEDIA MARKET. OTHER BRANDS SUCH AS THE LOCAL RADIO STATIONS
5. IPC MEDIA
IPC Media has more than sixty iconic brands that create content
across multiple platforms including print, online, mobile, tablets
and events.
IPC Media may not have the well known brands that Bauer
have, but IPC have a lot more magazine brands that are not
related to my genre. There is a lot of magazines that IPC
distribute that are targeted at females. Because of this I feel as
though IPC Media would be a good company to distribute my
magazine, only NME is the closest challenger to my magazine
but there isn’t competition like there would be at Bauer.
6. IPC MEDIA BRANDS
BRANDS SUCH AS CHAT, WOMAN’S WEEKLY AND LOOK ARE THE
BRANDS THAT ARE TARGETED AT WOMEN. I FEEL AS THOUGH MY
MAGAZINE WOULD FIT IN WITH IPC MEDIA WITH ONLY NME THE
CLOSET RIVAL REGARDING GENRE.

8. IN CONCLUSION I FEEL THAT IT IS A DIFFICULT CHOICE TO CHOOSE BETWEEEN THE
TWO BIG MEDIA DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES IN BAUER AND IPC. BOTH HAVE
THERE PROS AND CONS ON WHY THEY COULD DISTRIBUTE MY MAGAZINE
‘ANTHEM’.
IN BAUER THEY HAVE HUGE GLOBAL CONNECTIONS WITH ALMOST ALL OF EUROPE
ALONG WITH USA AND AUSTRALIA. THIS WOULD BE A BIG BONUS FOR
DISTRUBITING MY MAGAZINE AS IT COULD BE DISTRIBUTED AROUND THE
WORLD WITH THE PROSPECT OF BRINGING IN A PROFIT. THE DOWNSIDE OF
PUBLISHING AND DISTRIBUTING WITH BAUER WOULD BE THE COMPETITION
WITH THE OTHER MUSIC MAGAZINES KERRANG, MOJO AND Q. THIS WOULD
MEAN THAT BAUER WOULD HAVE A FOURTH MAGAZINE THAT DEALS WITH
MUSIC, BAUER WOULDN’T WANT TO DISTRUPT THE PROFIT THAT THEY ARE
MAIKING.
THE PROS FOR DISTRIBUTING WITH IPC WOULD BE THAT THAT THERE ISNT MUCH
COMPETITION WITH THEIR BRANDS, ONLY NME IS THE MUSIC MAGAZINE THAT IS
RELATED TO MY MAGAIZNE. I FEEL THAT IPC WOULD BE ABLE TO DISTRIBUTE
MY PRODUCT BECAUSE THEY NEED ANOTHER MUSIC MAGAZINE THAT
REALATES MORE TO ROCK THAN NME. BUT ALONG WITH THESE PROS COMES
THE CONS. THE PROBLEM WITH IPC IS THAT IT DOESN’T HAVE THE GLOBAL
DISTRIBUTION CONNECTIONS THAT BAUER HAS.
