Home Remedies for Menstrual Cramps


                                                    Menstrual cramps, medically referred to as dysmenorrheal
                                            refers to the pain that takes place in the lower abdomen of a
                                            woman especially in the pelvic area. This pain occurs as a result of
                                            the menstrual period in women. Some cramps are mild while
                                            others are extremely painful. The mild ones sometimes go
                                            unnoticed while extreme ones may even last up to two days. The
                                            following is a simple approach on how to cure menstrual cramps
                                            naturally.

                                                   One is advised to eat foods that are rich in magnesium.
                                           Also using magnesium supplements is recommended. This is
                                           because magnesium reduces contractions and pain during the early
stages of the menstrual period. One is advised to take the supplements a few days before the menstrual period
and eat foods rich in magnesium during the period.

        Another natural remedy is heating pads and placing them on the lower abdomen and the lower back
areas of the body. In case a pad is not available you can make one using uncooked rice and a sock. Just fill
the sock with the rice and heat in a microwave for about two minutes. This procedure helps in reducing pain
as muscles relax from the heat.

        Also eating food that is rich in essential fiber and fatty acids like omega 3, 6 and 9 helps in reducing
the pain. Such foods create steroid based hormones that help in muscle contractions and counter cortisol that
increases pain during the period.
Also one is advised to take chamomile tea some days before the menstrual cycle begins. This is because of
the natural benefits this tea has to the body. Its nutrients help to relax the muscles especially those around the
lower abdomen. One is also encouraged to drink 2 cups daily during the period.

        To add on that, foods that are rich in vitamin B, zinc and calcium are highly recommended during this
period. This is because these nutrients aid in reducing bloating and pain. Calcium helps in maintaining the
muscle tone and prevents cramps. Therefore one is encouraged to take a lot of milk during this period.

       Studies have shown that exercise during this period help in reducing muscle tension. Therefore it is
good to do mild exercises like taking a walk for at least 20 minutes and above. This will help your body and
muscles relax hence reduce pain during this time.
Another method on how to cure menstrual cramps naturally is the use of ginger root tea. For years now
science has proved that ginger has healing properties that cures a lot of diseases and menstrual cramps is not
an exception. One is advised to cut the ginger into small slices and put them in boiling water for some
minutes and later add honey to taste. This helps in reducing pain that is related to cramps.

       One is also advised to cut on sugar and salt intake. This is because these substances worsen the
cramps and also cause bloating. Therefore avoiding or
reducing their intake will reduce bloating and the
cramps in general.

        Also taking pineapple juice also help in relaxing
the muscles. Pineapples contain bromelain a substance
that helps in reducing muscle tension hence relaxing
them. Therefore a glass of this juice will help reduce
pain during this period.
In conclusion, there are several ways on how to cure
menstrual cramps naturally as seen above. If followed
keenly, these methods will help reduce the pain
experienced during the period.
