 To begin to think about variety of materials and innovative planning and design towards
creating a public art piece
Learning outcome:
 All – To have discussed and created at least a few designs with some notes
Key Words (BP)
Public art – is usually staged in a public domain that is accessible to everyone, in multiple media. It has a
significant impact in the space it being exhibited, the potential community involvement and collaboration.
Assessmentopportunities
Individual: Looking at own work and identifying own level and what progress needs to be made
Group: Discussion of work completed before and during the lesson, what is successful, which show the best
likeness, what has been learned?
Teacher: Continual verbal feedback throughout the lesson, grading after the lesson to be feedback to students
the following lesson
Differentiation
EAL:– check understanding of task on one-to-one basis at regular intervals throughout the lesson
G&T:– encourage more variety of idea development in line with previous works of art
SEN:– one-to-one discussion and exemplar demonstrations to clarify ideas and show examples for how the task
is to be completed
Resources:(Including opportunities for ICT and Health and Safety Issues)

Public Art and Artists Lesson Plan

  • 1. - 1 - Year: 7 Teacher: AT Date: 24/06/14 Set: Mixed Pupils: 30 Period: Subject: Art & Design Topic: Public Art Subject Learning Objectives and Learning outcomes: by the endof thelesson pupils will be able to understand/know…All / Most / Some  To know more about Public art and artists  To be able to design and create ideas towards their own art works  To begin to think about variety of materials and innovative planning and design towards creating a public art piece Learning outcome:  All – To have discussed and created at least a few designs with some notes Key Words (BP) Public art – is usually staged in a public domain that is accessible to everyone, in multiple media. It has a significant impact in the space it being exhibited, the potential community involvement and collaboration. Assessmentopportunities Individual: Looking at own work and identifying own level and what progress needs to be made Group: Discussion of work completed before and during the lesson, what is successful, which show the best likeness, what has been learned? Teacher: Continual verbal feedback throughout the lesson, grading after the lesson to be feedback to students the following lesson Differentiation EAL:– check understanding of task on one-to-one basis at regular intervals throughout the lesson G&T:– encourage more variety of idea development in line with previous works of art SEN:– one-to-one discussion and exemplar demonstrations to clarify ideas and show examples for how the task is to be completed Resources:(Including opportunities for ICT and Health and Safety Issues) Paper, pencils, rubber, sharpeners, colouring pencils Personal, Social, Moral links… Students are developing the ability to critique each others work in a positive way, to accept and appreciate differences, understanding of students from other cultures
  • 2. - 2 - Home Learning (H/W) To be handed in on… Bell Activity(5 minutes) Outline of lesson– plan or sequence ofevents *Brief recap of previous work, show successful work from sketchbook *Powerpoint, images and examples of artists who produce public art -5 mins *Discuss to the person next to you for ideas -What unique design would you choose to create for a Public art piece and why? -what would it be made from? -Where would it be and why? -What is the meaning behind the work? *Design a series of your own public art pieces-15 mins *Share the work you have done with the class, with feedback, what has been successful, further improvements (link to the National curriculum and learning objectives)-5 mins *Tidying up-5 mins
  • 3. - 3 - 1) Connect- Overview (Big Picture), prior learning links and learning objectives and outcomes shared *Brief recap of previous work, show successful work from sketchbook *Powerpoint, images and examples of artists who produce public art -5 mins 2) *Discuss to the person next to you for ideas-3 mins -What unique design would you choose to create for a Public art piece and why? -what would it be made from? -Where would it be and why? -What is the meaning behind the work? *Design a series of your own public art pieces-15 mins Stop, Review andConsolidate(when appropriate) 3)Consolidate - Plenary& links to future learning To review the work completed this lesson.
