2. After completing the brainstorm session with two other students
(Matthew Preece and Arron Kite) I have successfully developed a
preliminary idea for the brief that I have chosen ( to produce a short
film). Preliminary idea meaning that at this early stage in the portfolio
this idea isn’t necessarily the final idea that I will choose to transform
into a short film.
After exploring different genres and ideas with the help of the other
participants of the brainstorm I developed the idea of creating a short
film based on the thriller/psychological three genres. The short film
would document the life of a struggling protagonist, living a seemingly
normal life. During their working life the protagonist would experience
degrading comments from their co-workers and receive other abuse.
This repression would lead to the protagonist becoming increasing
frustrated with their life, causing them to embark on a killing spree,
hunting down their tormentors.
I developed this idea by looking at films that either fit into the thriller or
psychological thriller genres, for example: Se7en, Hannibal, Donnie
Darko, Shutter Island and The usual suspects. These films (especially
Se7en and The usual suspects) inspired the preliminary idea that I have
developed.
