M.Tech. in Computer Science & Engineering
Ph.D. Computer Science & Engineering
The undergraduate Program in Computer Science & Engineering in MIT was started in the academic
year 1985. The course objective is to mould students with a technical base for employment in the
diverse areas of Computer Science and Engineering, where the industry based arena is expanding
2. rapidly. This professional course opens up avenues for its graduates to promote entrepreneurship as
well as careers in Computer Science related industries.
B.E Computer Science department:
The Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) was started as an independent
department in 1988, though a B. Tech. Degree programme in CSE was started in 1985, as part of the
Department of Electronics and Communications, with affiliation to the Mangalore University. Over
the years the department has developed to become a centre of excellence providing in-depth
technical knowledge and opportunities for innovation and research with well equipped computer
facilities and dedicated faculty.
MIT gives candidates the option to carry out either full-time or part time research work. The
minimum duration for postgraduate qualified PhD candidates is three years for full time and four
years for part-time. There is a relaxation period of one year for candidates with an additional M. Phil
qualification. The institute undertakes sponsored research programmes supported by different
funding agencies such as DST, CSIR, AICTE and the Ministry of Environmental Sciences to mention a
few. It intends to initiate collaborative research programmes in association with premier research
laboratories and institutes in India and abroad. Details on various research activities in MIT can be
accessed in each department. Each department is involved in different research activities
