YDS BOOTS SUCCESSFULLY CHOSEN FOR
WALES FIREFIGHTER BOOT CONTRACT
YDS, Europe’slargestmanufacturerof militaryandpolice footwear,have beenawardedthe contract
to supplyall WelshfirefighterswithYDSflame retardantleatherCROSSTECH® fire boots.
In anothersuccessful contractforYDS Boots,the company will supply3500 firefightersthroughout
Wales(North Wales, SouthWales,Mid& WestWales) overa 4 yearperiodwiththe TalosandPluto
CROSSTECH® firefighterboots. YDSare one of only a few manufacturersinthe Worldwhospecialise
ininjectedDual DensityRubber(DDR) sole constructionusingrubbercompoundsmixedin-house
undera secretmethodand formula. The sole material isinjectedinliquidformthenfusedtothe
upperleatherfora strongbond,and it isideallysuitedtohazardousenvironmentsandinparticular
firefighting.

The contract will feature 2bootsbothincorporatingDDRtechnologyandCROSSTECH® fabricto give
an unprecedentedlevelof protectiontoWelshfirefighters,against water,blood, bodyfluidsand
some chemicals.

2. The Yorkshire PurchasingOrganisation(YPO)workedwiththe WelshFire procurementteamtocarry
out a mini tenderforthiscontract undertheir000299 Structural PPE frameworkandensureda
compliantroute forFire andRescue Servicestosuppliers. YPO’sEmergencyService CategoryBuyer
Sarah Sesumadvises ‘Purchasinginthiswayremovesthe requirementforanOJEU tenderingprocess
savingtime andmoney.’ Protective footwearframeworksfromYPOare currentlyavailable toall
fire,police andambulance servicesthroughoutthe UKand NorthernIreland.

The boots selectedforthe WelshContractcomplied tothe latestEuropeanFirefighterfootwear EN

pull onloops. Both bootsinclude variousadditionalandprotective featuresincluding flex areas,a
nail-proof protective textilemidsole,acut resistantstrip,ankle protectorsandaridgedbumpcap for
extradurability.
YDS continuestodevelopnew protectivefootweardesigns withfire andrescue technical expertsin
response tothe changingrole of the fire officer. It isworkingwithworldleading technologybrands
includingTencate®,D30®,WL GORE® and Coolmax® innew footwearprojects.
