3. Data Source
This report is based on data collected from 4,832 Windows Phone apps running
AdDuplex SDK v.2. The raw data analyzed was collected over the day of December
22nd, 2014 (UTC time) unless otherwise stated.
We have made every attempt to consolidate different reported phone model names
under their canonical retail model names, but it is possible that some of the rare model
name variations were not accounted for.
AdDuplex is the largest cross-promotion network for Windows Phone and Windows
Store apps empowering developers and publishers to promote their apps for free by
helping each other. AdDuplex was established in January 2011 in Vilnius, Lithuania. As
of December 2014, more than 9,500 apps actively use AdDuplex to gain more visibility.
4. Windows Phone Devices Worldwide
December 22nd, AdDuplex
The Lumia 520 is still top of
the pile and the top ten is all
still Lumia’s.
The 630 continues to grow in
popularity and the 635
variant also makes it’s first
appearance in the top ten
showing what a popular
device this is becoming.
The Lumia 800 has finally
dropped out of the top ten
this month meaning that the
710 is the only device left in
the top ten that is running
7.1.
The continued growth of the
“Other” category shows the
expansion in the variety of
devices in use.

5. Windows Phone 8 Manufacturers
December 22nd, AdDuplex
No big surprises or big
changes here this month.
A slight increase for Nokia
and the “other”
manufacturers but small
decreases for HTC,
Samsung and Huawei.
It is important to mention that
while the “Other” slice of the
pie is still insignificant in
absolute numbers, it has
grown 50% since last month.
You can find Windows Phone
on 30 different brands of
phones now.

6. OS Versions – Worldwide
December 22nd, AdDuplex
A combination of devices
being updated and new ones
being bought mean that the
percentage of devices
running 8.1 continues to
grow. This is primarily at the
expense of 8.0 but the
number of devices in use and
running 7.1 has also fallen
again this month.

7. OS versions by Country
December 22nd, AdDuplex
While the worldwide trend
has 8.1 on 57.9% of
devices, on a country by
country basis things vary
quite a lot.
In The Netherlands 8.1 is on
75% of devices in the
country but in South Africa
it’s on only 31%.
For the devices running 7.1
the range is equally wide. In
Mexico you’ll find it still
running on almost 40% of
devices but in Turkey it’s on
less than 1%.

8. OS Versions – US
December 22nd, AdDuplex
The US still lags the
worldwide benchmark of
WP8.1 adoption as a lack of
upgrades mean there are still
more devices there running

This month sees cricket
become the second most
popular network with 3.5%
growth from last month. This
growth is primarily from

10. Windows Phone Devices – US
December 22nd, AdDuplex
The 630 and 635 have both
grown in popularity with the
630 now the second most
popular device in use. This
isn’t at the expense of the
521 and 520 though as both
have seen a small
percentage growth.
The Lumia 925 and the HTC
8X have now slipped out of
the top ten to be replaced by
the Lumia 530 and Lumia
1320. This means that top
ten is now all Lumias.

11. Windows Phone Devices – Canada
December 22nd, AdDuplex
The remarkable thing about
Canada is that only seven of
the top ten devices are
Lumias.
The Samsung ATIV S is still
the third most popular device
with 10.3% of the market.
Two HTCs, the 8X and 8S
take the eighth and tenth
places respectively.

12. Windows Phone Devices – UK
December 22nd, AdDuplex
The UK reflects global trends
with the popularity of the
lower spec devices meaning
that the top four devices
represent more than half of
the devices in use.
The other point of note is the
Lumia 800 still representing
4.8% of devices and running
WP7.1, over three years after
it was released.

The Lumia 630 has seen the
biggest gain in the last
couple of months to become
the third most popular device

wider range of devices grow
in popularity.

same as two months ago but
they have each dropped
percentage points.

the latter two making their
first appearances in the top
ten showing new devices are

15. New Windows Phones spotted
There’s a bunch of phones from the new lesser known OEMs in our logs that it’s hard to
keep track of them. Out of the major brands here’s what caught our attention:
• Microsoft RM-1068 – seen exclusively in Brazil. 4” WVGA screen. Probably another
sibling of RM-1069, 70 and 71 we’ve covered last month.
• LG LGVW820 – another sign of LG potentially coming back to WP. 4.7” 480x854 screen
seen only in Korea so far.
