ABSTRACT World No Tobacco Day is an initiative by the World Health Organization and is observed on May 31st every year. It aims to spread awareness about the dangers of tobacco and its negative impact in health and environment. The World No Tobacco Day theme for 2021 is “Commit to Quit”. Adverse effects of tobacco smoking: Smoking causes various cancers like mouth cancer, larynx cancer, esophageal cancer, kidney cancer, etc. It causes various heart diseases like Atherosclerosis, coronary heart diseases, etc. It affects respiratory system by damaging the lungs causes COPD. It affects the sexual organs by decreasing the fertility, earlier menopause, decreased sperm count. It causes poverty due to addiction, money that could be used on education, food or health care goes to tobacco. Stages of Quitting Smoking: Denial: Difficulty to accept that smoking is affecting your health. Acceptance: It is common to realize the negative impact of smoking when it causes illness of loved ones/negative impact in their lives. Contemplation and Planning: When you are ready to consider quitting and planning to make a change. Action/active stage: Identifying quit plan. Maintenance: Involves working to continue your quit plan. Relapse: Starting to smoke again. Smoking impairs lung function, making it more difficult for the body to fight off respiratory disease due to the new coronavirus. Corona Virus is another good reason to quit smoking.
