26/11 IS A WOUND THAT WILL NEVER
HEAL, STRESSES DY CM FADNAVIS
Mumbai: Maharashtra
Deputy CM Devendra
Fadnavis on Friday said
the 26/11 terror attack
was “a wound that will
never heal,” and his
government was com-
mitted to ensure that
such an incident never
takesplaceagain.There
were intelligence in-
puts but the then gov-
ernment could not act
on it to prevent the at-
tack, said Fadnavis who
is also the state’s home
minister.
Fadnavis was speak-
ing at an event on the
eve of the 14th anniver-
sary of the terror at-
tack.
There was an intelli-
gence input but the gov-
ernment of the day
could not act on it and
there was no coordina-
tion, he claimed.
‘’After the attack, the
need for surveillance
through CCTV network
was stressed. From 2009
onwards, tenders were
issued and cancelled
but the project never
took off. Only when I
took over as chief min-
ister in 2014, the project
got a momentum,” Fad-
navis said.

NEHRU TO BLAME
FOR NOT SECURING
POK: VK SINGH
Mumbai: Union Minister
General (retd) VK Singh
on Friday blamed the
Jawaharlal Nehru gov-
ernment for not securing
Pakistan-Occupied Kash-
mir (PoK) in the 1948
war. He said the coun-
try's defence forces have
the capability to reclaim
PoK, and will execute
the task once they get
orders. “We could have
secured PoK in 1948, but
the government at the
time said, enough now,
our Mountbatten will be
unhappy, and stopped,”
Singh claimed and added
that India's response to
the 26/11 attack could
have been better.

NOBODY SHOULD GO THROUGH WHAT I HAVE GONE
THROUGH: 26/11 SURVIVOR ‘BABY MOSHE’
Jerusalem: Moshe Holtzberg,
the Israeli child who was just
two years old when he lost his
parents in the 2008 Mumbai
attack, has called upon the
international community to look
for ways to counter terror so
that “nobody has to go through
what he has gone through”. In a
recorded message shared by his
family to PTI recently, Moshe,
now 16, is heard narrating the
story of his lucky escape in a
daring act by his nanny, Sandra,
“who risked her own life to save
his”. He also talked about grow-
ing up in Israel with his grand-
parents who have been raising
him. At the end, Moshe makes a
solemn appeal that the interna-
tional community should take
steps so that “nobody should

Need to discuss violence against
women by intimate partners: Smriti
New Delhi: Union
Women and Child De-
velopment Minister
Smriti Irani said Friday
there is a need to dis-
cuss violence
against women
by intimate
partners and
the fact that
there was not much that
she could get in terms
of help. Irani stressed
on the need for discus-
sion on violence against
women by intimate
partners. “Nobody cuts
a woman into small
pieces in the heat (of
the moment).
Nobody contin-
ues to beat a
woman who he
claims to love or
is in a relationship with
in the heat of the mo-
ment,” she said.
The fact that the
abuse was continuous,
the fact that the abuse
was known to so many
people, and the fact that
there was not much that
she could get in terms
of help is an issue
which needs to be elabo-
rately reflected on by
people at large, because
violence by intimate
partner and violence by
members of the family
of a women is some-
thing that is aggressive-
ly reported in the Na-

Fast-track court should hear
Walkar murder case: Pawar
First India Bureau
Pune: Nationalist
Congress Party (NCP)
leader Ajit Pawar on
Friday said the Shrad-
dha Walkar murder
case should be heard
by a fast-track court
and the guilty be giv-
en the “harshest”
punishment.
Speaking to reporters
in Pune, Pawar said an
inquiry should take
place if any policeman
is found guilty of dere-
liction of duty
.
A message should
go to the society that
such an act only de-
serves capital punish-
ment, he said.
“The harshest should
be given to the guilty
so that no one musters
courage to commit
such a crime in future,”
said the NCP leader.
Union Home Minis-
ter Amit Shah had on
Thursday said Walkar
had lodged a complaint
against Poonawala at a
police station in Maha-
rashtra, but no action
was taken at the time
and a probe will be initi-
ated into the lapse.
When asked about
Shah’s statement, the
NCP leader said, “In-
stead of levelling alle-
gations against each
other, if any police of-
ficer or a police consta-
ble is found guilty of
dereliction of duty,
an inquiry should
take place.”
In May this year,
Walkar, 27, was alleg-
edly murdered by her
live-in partner Aaftab
Poonawala in Delhi. He
allegedly strangled
Walkar and sawed her
body into 35 pieces
which he kept in a
fridge for almost three
weeks at his residence
in South Delhi’s Meh-
rauli area before dump-
ing them across the
city over several days.
Walkar had in 2020
lodged a complaint
with the Palghar police
in Maharashtra, in
which she accused
Poonawala of trying to
kill her and stated that
she feared he would cut
her into pieces.

ment Directorate’s
(ED’s) plea seeking
cancellation of bail
granted to Shiv Sena
– Uddhav Balasaheb
Thackeray leader San-
jay Raut and his aide
Pravin Raut in a mon-
ey laundering case.
On November 09, the
ED had approached the
HC seeking cancellation
of bail granted to the
Rajya Sabha MP and his
aide by a special court.
The ED had sought an
interim stay on the bail
order, which the HC had
refused.
On Friday, when the
mattercameupforhear-
ing, the single bench
of Justice MS Karnik
said, “It would not be ap-
propriate for me to take
up this matter… not be-
fore me.”
The matter will now
be placed before a new
bench.
Raut was granted bail
by special PMLA judge
MG Deshpande, more
than 100 days after he
wasarrestedinthemon-
ey laundering case re-
lated to redevelopment
of Patra Chawl (a chawl
is a row of old tene-
ments) in suburban
Goregaon.
The special court, in
its order, had termed the
Raut’s arrest as “illegal,
without reason and a
witch-hunt”.
The ED, in its applica-
tion, said the special
court order was bad in
law and deserves to be
set aside. It also claimed
the special court had
failed to appreciate the
evidence submitted in
the case against the ac-
cused persons.

take corrective steps quickly. Expressing the need for
bringing a robust digital system to make the implemen-

trillion dollar dream
and Chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath is
leaving no stone un-
turned to realise it in the next
five years. Ministers will do
road shows in several countries
to hard sell UP in various coun-
tries for investments. Together
with domestic corporate houses
the state has kept an ambitious
investment target of Rs 10,000
crore. Pushed by Prime Minis-
ter Narendra Modi, the state
government has been engaging
with economists to figure out
how this target can be achieved.
None could figure out how. Fi-
nally, consulting company De-
loitte was hired which has sug-
gested a road map.
To realise the dream will re-
quire the state’s gross domestic
product to quadruple from 21.73
lakh crore ($270 billion approx-
imately) in 2021-22, a tall order
by any yardstick. The state is
banking on its infrastructure
(expressways, highways, air-

ments for religious and histori-
cal tourism. Despite the govern-
ment’s best efforts, economists
remain sceptical.

Maharashtra are-
as are grappling
with the outbreak
of measles and on
the other the opposition par-
ties want the Centre to take
back their “Amazon packet”.
Two vastly different issues
but one about human life and
health requires greater at-
tention. That is not exactly
how things are playing out in
Maharashtra where Mumbai
and its surrounding areas
have recorded 51 cases of
measles indicating low vac-
cination coverage which is
something to be concerned
about. The spotlight, howev-
er, is not on measles as much
as it is on Governor Bhagat
Singh Koshiyari, dubbed
‘Amazon packet’ for his con-
troversial remark on
Chhatrapati Shivaji.
Chhatrapati Shivaji is an
icon of Maratha pride and the
people, including those of the
BJP
, won’t accept an insult to
him. Surprisingly leaders of
the BJP, which is part of the
Eknath Shinde-faction led
state government, seem less
agitated than those of the Se-
na’s Thackeray faction and
the Nationalist Congress Par-
ty over Koshiyari calling
Shivaji “an icon of the olden
times” and Dr BR Ambedkar
and Nitin Gadkari “icons of
moderntimes”.FormerChief
Minister Uddhav Thackeray
went to the extent of suggest-
ing that the Governor should
be sent to an old age home.
Shivaji being a sensitive
issue, Deputy Chief Minis-
ter Devendra Fadnavis has
found it hard to defend Ko-
shiyari who made a similar
statement against Mahatma
Phule earlier. Centre could
be mulling its move as con-
tinued courting of contro-
versy by Koshiyari may
pose a threat to the Sena-

measles can be put aside for
tackling by health officials
while Koshiyari takes the
centre stage.

O
ecently a report on inequali-
ty in the world has been re-
leased by the global organiza-
tion United Nations Research
Institute for Social Develop-
ment (UNRISD). Pointing to
the dire consequences of in-
equality in this, it has been
emphasized to create a new
eco-social system. This re-
port, released in October
2022, points to the growing
inequality characteristic of
the world. This report comes
almost two years after the
pandemic. In this era the
global economy has been hit,
which for the first time in
several decades has pushed
the whole world into extreme
poverty
. The report says that
with the rise of democracy,
economic liberalization and
free markets, there has been
wide disparity in both in-
come and wealth. The situa-
tion today is the same as it
was at the height of Western
imperialism in the early 20th
century. In many countries
the situation is even worse.
The report suggests that
while the gap in basic living
standards is narrowing for
hundreds of millions of peo-
ple, their needs to thrive in
life are also changing. In the
current era, new types of in-
equalities are taking root,
mainly arising out of educa-
tion, technology and climate
change. If these ground-
shaking changes are not
stopped in time, the risk of
spreading a giant rift that the
world has not seen since the
Industrial Revolution will in-
crease. According to the re-
port, people are taking to the
streets due to many reasons.
Ticket prices, petrol prices,
demands for political free-
dom, fairness and justice, etc.
This is a new face of inequal-
ity and inequality is not be-
yond solutions.
According to the report,
the Human Development In-
dex (HDI) has seen impres-
sive progress since 1990 and
has benefited all sectors, in-
cluding the least developed
countries. The fastest eco-
nomic growth was seen from
2000 to 2010, but since then
this pace has slowed down.
From 1990 to 2018, many
countries have performed
well in terms of human de-
velopment. The number of
countries with high human
development has increased
from 12 to 62, while the num-
ber of countries with low hu-
man development has de-
creased from 62 to 36. The
report clarified that the chal-
lenge of inequality is not be-
yond solution and can be
dealt with, but bringing ine-
quality under control will
not be easy if the current pat-
tern continues. The report
says that unequal distribu-
tion in education, health and
standard of living affects the
progress of the country
. Sev-
eral suggestions have been
made in the report to im-
prove the situation and deal
with the growing problem of
inequality. According to the
report, inequality starts
right from the time of birth.
The gap between education
and health intensifies and
can continue until adult-
hood, so efforts and policies
to ameliorate the situation
must begin before or even be-
fore birth, with a focus on
children’s education, health
and well-being. Be nour-
ished. Such investments
should be continued especial-
ly at that stage of a person’s
life when they are making
money in the labor market.
Policies just to increase the
productivity of workers are
not enough and other poli-
cies including anti-trust have
to be focused to overcome the
imbalance in the market.
The report also suggested
that the tax should be part of
a broader policy system, in-
cluding public spending on
health and education, and ex-
ploring alternatives to car-
bon-based lifestyles. The re-
port underscores the impor-
tance of new international
tax principles to ensure eq-
uity and avoids the race to
lower corporate tax rates. The
report says that average fig-
ures often do not accurately
reflect the truth. Further-
more, effectively tackling in-
equality requires detailed in-
formation, especially to com-
bat the various dimensions of
poverty and help those left
behind. The report claimed
that the nature of inequali-
ties could change in the fu-
ture and that the climate cri-
siscouldbeamajorreasonfor
this. Carbon pricing policies
can be mismanaged, but rev-
enues from carbon pricing, if
used for the benefit of taxpay-
ers as part of a social policy
package, will help reduce in-
equality
. Renewable energy,
energy efficiency, digital fi-
nance and health solutions
demonstrate how new tech-
nologies and opportunities
can be used to broadly im-
prove living standards.
According to the report,
deep inequalities emerged
even before the technological
revolutions and now a similar
picture is emerging with arti-
ficial intelligence and digital
technologies. In such a situa-
tion,theneedforsocialprotec-
tion must be emphasized,
which will require interna-
tional consensus on ensuring
fair compensation, investing
in life-long learning and tax-
ing digital activities. This will
help in building a new, secure
and stable digital economy
,
which will pave the way for
human development. The re-
portalsoindicatesthatif steps
are not taken in this direction
soon,thenthesituationwillbe
very dire in the coming times
and it will become difficult to
deal with them.
THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY
THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL
If inequality is not stopped, then
the situation will be frightening

New Delhi (ANI): Tak-

life of Lachit Borphu-

Narendra Modi on Fri-

.
He made the remark
while addressing the
closing ceremony of the
year-long celebrations
of the 400th birth anni-
versary of Lachit Bor-
phukan in New Delhi
today
. The Prime Minis-

kan - Assam’s Hero who
Halted the Mughals’ on
the occasion.
In line with the Prime
Minister’s vision to
honour the unsung he-
roes in a befitting man-
ner, today’s occasion is
celebrated to honour
the 400th birth anniver-
sary of Lachit Borphu-
kan, the famous Gener-
al of the Royal Army of
the Ahom Kingdom of
Assam who defeated the
Mughals and success-
fully halted the ever-
expanding ambitions of
the Mughals under Au-
rangzeb.
Addressing the gath-
ering, the Prime Minis-
ter started with ex-
pressing his regard for
the land of Assam
which gave brave sons
like Veer Lachit. “We
bow to the valorous La-
chit Borphukan on his
400th birth anniversary
.
He played a pivotal role
in preserving the cul-
ture of Assam”, he said.
The Prime Minister
said, “India is celebrat-
ing the 400th birth an-
niversary of Lachit
Borphukan at a time
when the country is
marking ‘Azadi Ka Am-
rit Mahotsav’.”
Terming Veer La-
chit’s exploits a glorious
chapter of the history
of Assam, the Prime
Minister said, “I salute
this great tradition on
the occasion of the festi-
val of India’s eternal
culture, eternal valour
and eternal existence.”
The Prime Minister
reiterated India’s mood
to get rid of the mental-
ity of slavery and take
pride in its heritage. In-
dia is not only celebrat-
ing its cultural diversity
but also acknowledging
the unsung heroes and

New Delhi: The

First India Bureau
New Delhi: India is capa-

growth rate but in view of
the geopolitical situation,
we should be satisfied with
a 6.5-7% economic expan-

.
India is following an “in-

en growth model” and
against the backdrop of
“turbulent” global times,
the RBI and the govern-
ment have followed a re-
strained macro-economic
approach, which is a cor-
rect step.
“It is a very turbulent
time and we are generating
a 7% growth rate already.
Nothing to sniff at. But if
we get an open road, this
economic machinery that
we have built is capable of
generating a 9% growth

The global economy is

First India Bureau
New Delhi: Commerce
and Industry Minister Pi-
yush Goyal has said that
the Indian economy was
not to be blamed for weak-
ening of rupee, as this was
mainly due to the strength-
ening of the dollar.
Speaking at the Times
Now summit, the minister,
despite rising inflation,
sounded an optimistic
note, noting that compared
to sky rocketing inflation
in many countries, where
it is ranging between 8 to
10%, India has maintained
a fair balance between in-
flation and interest rates
and price rise in the coun-
try is much lower than
compared to others.
Goyal also said that even
as the prevailing geopoliti-
cal situation remains fluid
owing to the global head-
winds and signs of reces-
sion in many nations, India
is on a path of rapid recov-
ery and its growth rate is
7%, which is a positive sign.
At the same time though,
he added that the situation
arising out of the Corona-
virus pandemic and Rus-
sia-Ukraine war could not
be ignored.
On job losses in the IT
and technology sectors and
rising unemployment, an

Mumbai: The village
of Sultanpur (popula-
tion: 1,000) will now
be known as Rahul
Nagar with residents
deciding to rename it
in honour of native
son Rahul Shinde, a
constable of the State
Reserve Police Force
(SRPF), who was
killed fighting terror-
ists in the 26/11 Mum-
bai attacks in 2008.
Shinde was among
the first police person-
nel to enter the Taj Ma-
hal Palace Hotel in
south Mumbai after re-
ports of firing by ter-
rorists. He fell after tak-
ing a terrorist’s bullet
to the stomach.
The government
honoured him posthu-
mously with a Presi-
dent's Police Medal.
On the eve of the
14th anniversary of the
26/11 attacks, Subhash
Vishnu Shinde, father
of the martyred con-
stable, told PTI how
proud he was of his
martyred son.
“All the government
formalities for renam-
ing the village are done.
I feel honoured that the
village now bears the
name of my son,” he
also said, adding that
Joint Commissioner of
Police (Law and Order)

then Deputy Commis-
sioner of Police (zone-I)
in Mumbai—helped
him in the process.
However, the offi-
cial renaming ceremo-
ny is still pending.
“After Rahul’s de-
mise, the government
provided us financial
assistance. We also got
a flat in Mumbai and a
gas agency at the talu-
ka place, which helps
the family earn a liv-
ing,” he said.
Shinde also set up a
memorial to Rahul in
the village in 2010, us-
ing the Rs10 lakh aid
given to the family by
the Mumbai civic body
.
“The memorial is
meant to inspire the
younger generation, to
prepare them to be
able to make the su-
preme sacrifice for the
country if called
upon,” he said.
Subhash Shinde has
two surviving chil-
dren—a daughter and a
son, with whom he
lives. However, the loss
is still raw.
“Rahul’s mother is
still traumatized, and
has not been able to
come to terms with the
fact that Rahul is no
more,”Shindesaid. —PTI
26/11 MUMBAI ATTACKS
On November 26, 2008, 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists from Pakistan arrived by
sea and opened fire, killing 166 people, including 18 security personnel, and
injuring several others during the 60-hour siege in Mumbai. Nine terrorists

From sus-

to ethical fash-

have become quite ubiqui-
tous. For centuries, Ra-
jasthan has witnessed sev-
eral marauders and people
from different regions of
the world and that is the
reason why the region has
absorbed some of the tradi-
tions, culture, and style of
these visitors. Taking the
fashion statement and
Jaipur Dori to London,
Shalini highlights the sus-
tainable fashion highlight-
ing hemp.
Hemp is the most sus-
tainable plant on the earth
requires 4 times less wa-
ter than cotton. Hemp fab-
ric looks like linen but
doesn’t wrinkle like it and
feels exactly like cotton.
Hemp clothing is more
comfortable, breathable
and softer than other fab-
rics. It also retains colour
longer and lasts more
washes than clothing
made up of other fabrics.
In addition to being better
for the environment,
wearing clothing made of
hemp is better for you.
The heels and the décors, the flamboyance and the ardor,
enwrapped the traditional fervor of Jaipur in London. With the city
hosting First India Fashion Connect Season 13, the show set
benchmarks with the emerging trends and sustainable fashion

Honey: Health Benefits of
Honey: Health Benefits of
THE GOLDEN LIQUID
THE GOLDEN LIQUID
IS HONEY HEALTHY?
oney is a sweet
food, which is
healthier than
table sugars. It
is a natural
sugar made by
honeybees us-
ing nectar from the
flowers. Cave paint-
ings suggest human
beings collected honey
from honeycombs
roughly 8000 years ago
and the goodness
of honey has
been known and
used in food and as
medicine for at least
4000 years.
Honey is loaded
with powerful antioxi-
dants with antiseptic
and antibacterial
properties. It is not
just to spread on bread
toasts in the morning
breakfast. Apart from
its nutritive food val-
ue, honey is extensive-
ly used for its medici-
nal properties in alter-
native medicine. Stud-
ies about honey have
revealed that honey
has powerful anti-bac-
terial activity on a
wide span of bacteria.
The low water content
and the osmotic prop-
erty make honey an
excellent anti-bacteri-
al natural product.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF HONEY
Honey is known for various amazing benefits. It has
been widely used in a variety of products from sweet
confectioneries to cosmetics.
SOME OFTHE BENEFITS OF HONEY ARE MENTIONED BELOW:
SOURCE: https://www.medindia.net/patients/lifestyleandwellness/honey.htm
Honey and Cinnamon: A
Perfect Combination
Honey and cinnamon have
been curing many diseases
and infections since ancient
times. Traditional societies
have mixed honey and cin-
namon from time immemo-
rial to cure people from
common cold, sore throat
and skin infections. This
practice is still followed by
alternative medicine practi-
tioners who use it to cure
infertility in men and wom-
en. The combination of
honey and cinnamon cures
arthritis pain, cholesterol,
hair fall and gastric prob-
lems. It also clears stomach
ulcers and helps digest the
heaviest meals. The most
common use of honey and
cinnamon is to cure a cold
and sore throat. Studies
show that applying honey
and cinnamon on your skin
can cure pimples and acne.
Honey and Immunity
Honey is an excellent rem-
edy for improving your im-
munity against allergies
and asthma. Honey con-
tains floral flavonoids.
When honey is ingested, it
immediately increases the
antioxidant levels within
the cells of the body and de-
creases the capillary per-
meability and fragility.
Honey has also shown anti-
cancer and anti-tumor
properties preventing the
risks of cancer in humans.
Research by students at the
Xavier University in New
Orleans showed a positive
result of local honey and its
allergy curing properties.
The results say that honey
acts as a vaccine for those
who are allergic to pollen
grains. Honey contains the
same kind of pollen grains
that cause this allergy. By
consuming honey, we make
the body accustomed to
these pollen grains de-
crease the chance of the im-
mune response to them like
the release of histamines.
Local honey is said to be the
best kind against allergies.
Honey and Stamina
Honey helps build stamina
in athletes. When athletes
take honey drinks before
and after important athletic
events, it replaces all the
carbohydrates and minerals
spent during the workout or
in extreme conditions.
While we are g o i n g
through work-
outs, our body
sweats and we
lose minerals.
Honey contains a
g o o d
amount
of all the
important
m i n e r -
als and
replaces
them in
the body
.
It is like an
energy drink for the sports-
men and athletes and helps
them in muscle building.
Honey and Weight Loss
Honey is a natural sweet-
ener that contains 22 amino
acids including a variety of
minerals, which are impor-
tant for metabolism and
therefore helpful in pre-
venting obesity. Lemon
juice with a little honey
early morning is believed to
be the effective anti-cellu-
lite treatment. This is an
effective remedy to speed
up shedding pounds from
your body. Again, honey
and cinnamon is another
powerful remedy for effec-
tive weight loss. For people
who love binge eating, hon-
ey can be taken as an effec-
tive remedy for digestion
later on.
Honey and Cosmetics
Honey is widely used in
many types of cosmetics
like lip balm, face creams
and shower gels. The rea-
son behind this is because
honey does not spoil due to
its high sugar content. It
has 50% more density than
water. The osmotic proper-
ty of honey attributes to its
anti-bacterial property.
Honey is a thick liquid that
acts as a perfect skin and
hair conditioner. It brings
smoothness to the skin and
hair. Hence, is used in cos-
metics and shampoos.
Honey and Antiseptic
Properties
Generally in hospitals,
doctors prefer hydrogen
peroxide to clean wounds
so they heal quickly. The
same chemical is present
in honey in very good
amounts. It is released by
diluting honey in water
or body fluids. When it is
applied on the open
wounds, especially burn
wounds, the glucose pre-
sent in honey dilutes
gradually releasing hydro-
gen peroxide and due to its
viscous constituency,
honey prevents wounds
from sticking to the dress-
ing and there are little
or no scars after
healing.

  • 1. 26/11 IS A WOUND THAT WILL NEVER HEAL, STRESSES DY CM FADNAVIS Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said the 26/11 terror attack was “a wound that will never heal,” and his government was com- mitted to ensure that such an incident never takesplaceagain. There were intelligence in- puts but the then gov- ernment could not act on it to prevent the at- tack, said Fadnavis who is also the state’s home minister. Fadnavis was speak- ing at an event on the eve of the 14th anniver- sary of the terror at- tack. There was an intelli- gence input but the gov- ernment of the day could not act on it and there was no coordina- tion, he claimed. ‘’After the attack, the need for surveillance through CCTV network was stressed. From 2009 onwards, tenders were issued and cancelled but the project never took off. Only when I took over as chief min- ister in 2014, the project got a momentum,” Fad- navis said. Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis Event organised by RSS’s magazine ‘Panchajanya’ on the eve of the 14th anniversary of 26/11 NEHRU TO BLAME FOR NOT SECURING POK: VK SINGH Mumbai: Union Minister General (retd) VK Singh on Friday blamed the Jawaharlal Nehru gov- ernment for not securing Pakistan-Occupied Kash- mir (PoK) in the 1948 war. He said the coun- try's defence forces have the capability to reclaim PoK, and will execute the task once they get orders. “We could have secured PoK in 1948, but the government at the time said, enough now, our Mountbatten will be unhappy, and stopped,” Singh claimed and added that India's response to the 26/11 attack could have been better. In a recorded message shared by his family to PTI recently, Moshe, now 16, is heard narrating the story of his lucky escape in a daring act by his nanny, Sandra, “who risked her own life to save his”. He also talked about grow- ing up in Israel with his grand- parents who have been raising him. At the end, Moshe makes a solemn appeal that the interna- tional community should take steps so that “nobody should go through what I have gone through”. 2008 2022 CBI files charge sheet, does not mention Sisodia DELHI EXCISE SCAM CASE New Delhi: The CBI on Friday filed its first chargesheetintheDelhi excise policy scam case against arrested busi- nessmen Vijay Nair and Abhishek Boinpally and five more accused, keep- ing the probe open into theallegedroleof others namedintheFIRinclud- ing Deputy Chief Minis- ter Manish Sisodia. Irani stressed on the need for discus- sion on violence against women by intimate partners. “Nobody cuts a woman into small pieces in the heat (of the moment). Nobody contin- ues to beat a woman who he claims to love or is in a relationship with in the heat of the mo- ment,” she said. The fact that the abuse was continuous, the fact that the abuse was known to so many people, and the fact that there was not much that she could get in terms of help is an issue which needs to be elabo- rately reflected on by people at large, because violence by intimate partner and violence by members of the family of a women is some- thing that is aggressive- ly reported in the Na- tional Crime Records Bureau, Irani said. New Delhi: The SC on Friday dismissed a plea filedbytheNIAchalleng- ing the bail granted by Bombay High Court to activist Anand Teltumb- de in the Elgar Parishad- Maoist links case. A bench said it will not in- terfere with the Bombay courtordergrantingbail to Teltumbde. “We will not inter- fere. The petition is dis- missed. However, the observations contained in the impugned judge- ment of the high court shall not be treated as conclusive final find- ings at the trial,” the apex court noted. During the hearing, CJI Chandrachud en- quired about the role attributable to Teltumb- de due to which UAPA sections were brought into action against him. “What is the specific role to bring UAPA sec- tions into action? Is Dalit mobilisation pre- paratory act to pro- scribed activity?” CJI Chandrachud asked Ad- ditional Solicitor Gen- eral Aishwarya Bhati. New Delhi: Bollywood legend and veteran Ac- tor Amitabh Bachchan filed a suit in Delhi High Court seeking pro- tection of his personal- ity rights, image, voice or any of his character- istics without his con- sent, following which the court passed an in- terim ex-parte injunc- tion in his favour. Eminent lawyer Har- ish Salve submitted that there is a complete misuse of Amitabh Bachchan’s name, im- age, voice or any of his characteristics without his consent. Justice Navin Chaw- la passed an interim ex- parte injunction in fa- vour of the Amitabh Bachchan. Ahmedabad: Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday said anti-social elements earlier indulged in vio- lence in Gujarat as the Congress supported them, but after the per- petrators were “taught a lesson” in 2002, they stopped such activities and BJP established “permanent peace” in the state. Addressing a rally in Mahudha town, Shah al- leged,“DuringCongress rule in Gujarat, commu- nal riots were rampant. Congress used to incite peopleandstrengthened its vote bank. Speaking at the 400th birth anniversary cel- ebrations of Lachit Barphukan, Prime Minister said that In- dia’s history was dis- torted deliberately. “In every corner of the country, bravehearts of Maa Bharati faced the oppressors and sac- rificed their lives. Is the valour of Lachit Barphukan not impor- tant? Are the sacrifices of thousands of people in Assam against the Mughals not impor- tant?” said Prime Min- ister Modi. Speaking to reporters in Pune, Pawar said an inquiry should take place if any policeman is found guilty of dere- liction of duty . A message should go to the society that such an act only de- serves capital punish- ment, he said. “The harshest should be given to the guilty so that no one musters courage to commit such a crime in future,” said the NCP leader. Union Home Minis- ter Amit Shah had on Thursday said Walkar had lodged a complaint against Poonawala at a police station in Maha- rashtra, but no action was taken at the time and a probe will be initi- ated into the lapse. When asked about Shah’s statement, the NCP leader said, “In- stead of levelling alle- gations against each other, if any police of- ficer or a police consta- ble is found guilty of dereliction of duty, an inquiry should take place.” In May this year, Walkar, 27, was alleg- edly murdered by her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala in Delhi. He allegedly strangled Walkar and sawed her body into 35 pieces which he kept in a fridge for almost three weeks at his residence in South Delhi’s Meh- rauli area before dump- ing them across the city over several days. Walkar had in 2020 lodged a complaint with the Palghar police in Maharashtra, in which she accused Poonawala of trying to kill her and stated that she feared he would cut her into pieces. HC judge avoids hearing EDpleaagainstRaut’sbail First India Bureau Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Friday recused itself from hearing the Enforce- ment Directorate’s (ED’s) plea seeking cancellation of bail granted to Shiv Sena – Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray leader San- jay Raut and his aide Pravin Raut in a mon- ey laundering case. On November 09, the ED had approached the HC seeking cancellation of bail granted to the Rajya Sabha MP and his aide by a special court. The ED had sought an interim stay on the bail order, which the HC had refused. On Friday, when the mattercameupforhear- ing, the single bench of Justice MS Karnik said, “It would not be ap- propriate for me to take up this matter… not be- fore me.” The matter will now be placed before a new bench. Raut was granted bail by special PMLA judge MG Deshpande, more than 100 days after he wasarrestedinthemon- ey laundering case re- lated to redevelopment of Patra Chawl (a chawl is a row of old tene- ments) in suburban Goregaon. The special court, in its order, had termed the Raut’s arrest as “illegal, without reason and a witch-hunt”. The ED, in its applica- tion, said the special court order was bad in law and deserves to be set aside. It also claimed the special court had failed to appreciate the evidence submitted in the case against the ac- cused persons. First India Bureau Mumbai: Commenting on the recent stir on of Karnataka-Maharash- tra border dispute, Shiv Sena – Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray leader Sanjay Raut on Friday claimed that the issue has been raked up to divert peo- ple’s attention from Governor Bhagat Sin- gh Koshyari’s “insult” to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Last week, Koshyari had said during an event in Aurangabad that Chhatrapati Shivaji Ma- haraj was an icon of “olden days”. His state- ment had drawn flak from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Uddhav Thackeray- led Shiv Sena faction. Talking to reporters in Mumbai, Raut said that earlier Koshyari had insulted Marathi- speakingpeoplewithhis comment that Mumbai willnotremainthecoun- try’s financial capital if Gujaratis and Marwaris left the city . “ At that time, I was ar- restedtodivertattention from this insult,” said Raut, whowasbookedin a money laundering case. TOP TWEETS UTTAR PRADESH DREAMS BIG, WORKING TO REALISE IT ttar Pradesh has a trillion dollar dream and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is leaving no stone un- turned to realise it in the next five years. Ministers will do road shows in several countries to hard sell UP in various coun- tries for investments. Together with domestic corporate houses the state has kept an ambitious investment target of Rs 10,000 crore. Pushed by Prime Minis- ter Narendra Modi, the state government has been engaging with economists to figure out how this target can be achieved. None could figure out how. Fi- nally, consulting company De- loitte was hired which has sug- gested a road map. To realise the dream will re- quire the state’s gross domestic product to quadruple from 21.73 lakh crore ($270 billion approx- imately) in 2021-22, a tall order by any yardstick. The state is banking on its infrastructure (expressways, highways, air- ports) and temples and monu- ments for religious and histori- cal tourism. Despite the govern- ment’s best efforts, economists remain sceptical. U n the one hand Maharashtra are- as are grappling with the outbreak of measles and on the other the opposition par- ties want the Centre to take back their “Amazon packet”. Two vastly different issues but one about human life and health requires greater at- tention. That is not exactly how things are playing out in Maharashtra where Mumbai and its surrounding areas have recorded 51 cases of measles indicating low vac- cination coverage which is something to be concerned about. The spotlight, howev- er, is not on measles as much as it is on Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, dubbed ‘Amazon packet’ for his con- troversial remark on Chhatrapati Shivaji. Chhatrapati Shivaji is an icon of Maratha pride and the people, including those of the BJP , won’t accept an insult to him. Surprisingly leaders of the BJP, which is part of the Eknath Shinde-faction led state government, seem less agitated than those of the Se- na’s Thackeray faction and the Nationalist Congress Par- ty over Koshiyari calling Shivaji “an icon of the olden times” and Dr BR Ambedkar and Nitin Gadkari “icons of moderntimes”.FormerChief Minister Uddhav Thackeray went to the extent of suggest- ing that the Governor should be sent to an old age home. Shivaji being a sensitive issue, Deputy Chief Minis- ter Devendra Fadnavis has found it hard to defend Ko- shiyari who made a similar statement against Mahatma Phule earlier. Centre could be mulling its move as con- tinued courting of contro- versy by Koshiyari may pose a threat to the Sena- BJP alliance. Obviously, measles can be put aside for tackling by health officials while Koshiyari takes the centre stage. KOSHIYARI’S REMARK PUTS BJP IN A FIX The spotlight, however, is not on measles as much as it is on Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, dubbed ‘Amazon packet’ for his controversial remark on Chhatrapati Shivaji O ecently a report on inequali- ty in the world has been re- leased by the global organiza- tion United Nations Research Institute for Social Develop- ment (UNRISD). Pointing to the dire consequences of in- equality in this, it has been emphasized to create a new eco-social system. This re- port, released in October 2022, points to the growing inequality characteristic of the world. This report comes almost two years after the pandemic. In this era the global economy has been hit, which for the first time in several decades has pushed the whole world into extreme poverty . The report says that with the rise of democracy, economic liberalization and free markets, there has been wide disparity in both in- come and wealth. The situa- tion today is the same as it was at the height of Western imperialism in the early 20th century. In many countries the situation is even worse. The report suggests that while the gap in basic living standards is narrowing for hundreds of millions of peo- ple, their needs to thrive in life are also changing. In the current era, new types of in- equalities are taking root, mainly arising out of educa- tion, technology and climate change. If these ground- shaking changes are not stopped in time, the risk of spreading a giant rift that the world has not seen since the Industrial Revolution will in- crease. According to the re- port, people are taking to the streets due to many reasons. Ticket prices, petrol prices, demands for political free- dom, fairness and justice, etc. This is a new face of inequal- ity and inequality is not be- yond solutions. According to the report, the Human Development In- dex (HDI) has seen impres- sive progress since 1990 and has benefited all sectors, in- cluding the least developed countries. The fastest eco- nomic growth was seen from 2000 to 2010, but since then this pace has slowed down. From 1990 to 2018, many countries have performed well in terms of human de- velopment. The number of countries with high human development has increased from 12 to 62, while the num- ber of countries with low hu- man development has de- creased from 62 to 36. The report clarified that the chal- lenge of inequality is not be- yond solution and can be dealt with, but bringing ine- quality under control will not be easy if the current pat- tern continues. The report says that unequal distribu- tion in education, health and standard of living affects the progress of the country . Sev- eral suggestions have been made in the report to im- prove the situation and deal with the growing problem of inequality. According to the report, inequality starts right from the time of birth. The gap between education and health intensifies and can continue until adult- hood, so efforts and policies to ameliorate the situation must begin before or even be- fore birth, with a focus on children’s education, health and well-being. Be nour- ished. Such investments should be continued especial- ly at that stage of a person’s life when they are making money in the labor market. Policies just to increase the productivity of workers are not enough and other poli- cies including anti-trust have to be focused to overcome the imbalance in the market. The report also suggested that the tax should be part of a broader policy system, in- cluding public spending on health and education, and ex- ploring alternatives to car- bon-based lifestyles. The re- port underscores the impor- tance of new international tax principles to ensure eq- uity and avoids the race to lower corporate tax rates. The report says that average fig- ures often do not accurately reflect the truth. Further- more, effectively tackling in- equality requires detailed in- formation, especially to com- bat the various dimensions of poverty and help those left behind. The report claimed that the nature of inequali- ties could change in the fu- ture and that the climate cri- siscouldbeamajorreasonfor this. Carbon pricing policies can be mismanaged, but rev- enues from carbon pricing, if used for the benefit of taxpay- ers as part of a social policy package, will help reduce in- equality . Renewable energy, energy efficiency, digital fi- nance and health solutions demonstrate how new tech- nologies and opportunities can be used to broadly im- prove living standards. According to the report, deep inequalities emerged even before the technological revolutions and now a similar picture is emerging with arti- ficial intelligence and digital technologies. In such a situa- tion,theneedforsocialprotec- tion must be emphasized, which will require interna- tional consensus on ensuring fair compensation, investing in life-long learning and tax- ing digital activities. This will help in building a new, secure and stable digital economy , which will pave the way for human development. The re- portalsoindicatesthatif steps are not taken in this direction soon, thenthesituationwillbe very dire in the coming times and it will become difficult to deal with them. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL If inequality is not stopped, then the situation will be frightening A report recently released by UNRISD on inequality in the world says that if steps are not taken to stop inequality soon, then in the coming times the situation will become very serious and it will become difficult to deal with them R AMIT BAIJNATH GARG The writer is a Senior Journalist The report also suggested that the tax should be part of a broader policy system, including public spending on health and education, and exploring alternatives to carbon-based lifestyles. Carbon pricing policies can be mismanaged, but revenues from carbon pricing, if used for the benefit of taxpayers as part of a social policy package, will help reduce inequality The gap in basic living standards is narrowing for hundreds of millions of people, their needs to thrive in life are also changing. In the current era, new types of inequalities are taking root, mainly arising out of education, technology and climate change. If these ground-shaking changes are not stopped in time, the risk of spreading a giant rift that the world has not seen since the Industrial Revolution will increase

India is following an “in- vestment and export-driv- en growth model” and against the backdrop of “turbulent” global times, the RBI and the govern- ment have followed a re- strained macro-economic approach, which is a cor- rect step. “It is a very turbulent time and we are generating a 7% growth rate already. Nothing to sniff at. But if we get an open road, this economic machinery that we have built is capable of generating a 9% growth rate,” Sanyal said at the Times Now Summit 2022. The global economy is facing supply chain disrup- tions following the out- break of the Russia- Ukraine war in February . Sanyal said, “This is not the time to try and overex- tend ourselves. Any growth rate between 6.5-7% growth rate is not to be sniffed at. Even in the best of times.” WHAT SANJIV SANYAL SAID z India is following an “investment and export- driven growth model” and against the backdrop of “turbulent” global times, the RBI and the government have followed a restrained macro-economic approach, which is a correct step. z The global economy is facing supply chain disruptions following the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war in Feb. First India Bureau New Delhi: Commerce and Industry Minister Pi- yush Goyal has said that the Indian economy was not to be blamed for weak- ening of rupee, as this was mainly due to the strength- ening of the dollar. Speaking at the Times Now summit, the minister, despite rising inflation, sounded an optimistic note, noting that compared to sky rocketing inflation in many countries, where it is ranging between 8 to 10%, India has maintained a fair balance between in- flation and interest rates and price rise in the coun- try is much lower than compared to others. Goyal also said that even as the prevailing geopoliti- cal situation remains fluid owing to the global head- winds and signs of reces- sion in many nations, India is on a path of rapid recov- ery and its growth rate is 7%, which is a positive sign. At the same time though, he added that the situation arising out of the Corona- virus pandemic and Rus- sia-Ukraine war could not be ignored. On job losses in the IT and technology sectors and rising unemployment, an issue being raised by the opposition, Goyal said that on the contrary India’s job market is seeing an upward trajectory . YOUR DAY Horoscope by Saurabbh Sachdeva Honey: Health Benefits of Honey: Health Benefits of THE GOLDEN LIQUID THE GOLDEN LIQUID IS HONEY HEALTHY? oney is a sweet food, which is healthier than table sugars. It is a natural sugar made by honeybees us- ing nectar from the flowers. Cave paint- ings suggest human beings collected honey from honeycombs roughly 8000 years ago and the goodness of honey has been known and used in food and as medicine for at least 4000 years. Honey is loaded with powerful antioxi- dants with antiseptic and antibacterial properties. It is not just to spread on bread toasts in the morning breakfast. Apart from its nutritive food val- ue, honey is extensive- ly used for its medici- nal properties in alter- native medicine. Stud- ies about honey have revealed that honey has powerful anti-bac- terial activity on a wide span of bacteria. The low water content and the osmotic prop- erty make honey an excellent anti-bacteri- al natural product. H KRISHNA BORA B.Sc. (Microbiology) HEALTH BENEFITS OF HONEY Honey is known for various amazing benefits. It has been widely used in a variety of products from sweet confectioneries to cosmetics. SOME OFTHE BENEFITS OF HONEY ARE MENTIONED BELOW: SOURCE: https://www.medindia.net/patients/lifestyleandwellness/honey.htm Honey and Cinnamon: A Perfect Combination Honey and cinnamon have been curing many diseases and infections since ancient times. Traditional societies have mixed honey and cin- namon from time immemo- rial to cure people from common cold, sore throat and skin infections. This practice is still followed by alternative medicine practi- tioners who use it to cure infertility in men and wom- en. The combination of honey and cinnamon cures arthritis pain, cholesterol, hair fall and gastric prob- lems. It also clears stomach ulcers and helps digest the heaviest meals. The most common use of honey and cinnamon is to cure a cold and sore throat. Studies show that applying honey and cinnamon on your skin can cure pimples and acne. Honey and Immunity Honey is an excellent rem- edy for improving your im- munity against allergies and asthma. Honey con- tains floral flavonoids. When honey is ingested, it immediately increases the antioxidant levels within the cells of the body and de- creases the capillary per- meability and fragility. Honey has also shown anti- cancer and anti-tumor properties preventing the risks of cancer in humans. Research by students at the Xavier University in New Orleans showed a positive result of local honey and its allergy curing properties. The results say that honey acts as a vaccine for those who are allergic to pollen grains. Honey contains the same kind of pollen grains that cause this allergy. By consuming honey, we make the body accustomed to these pollen grains de- crease the chance of the im- mune response to them like the release of histamines. Local honey is said to be the best kind against allergies. Honey and Stamina Honey helps build stamina in athletes. When athletes take honey drinks before and after important athletic events, it replaces all the carbohydrates and minerals spent during the workout or in extreme conditions. While we are g o i n g through work- outs, our body sweats and we lose minerals. Honey contains a g o o d amount of all the important m i n e r - als and replaces them in the body . It is like an energy drink for the sports- men and athletes and helps them in muscle building. Honey and Weight Loss Honey is a natural sweet- ener that contains 22 amino acids including a variety of minerals, which are impor- tant for metabolism and therefore helpful in pre- venting obesity. Lemon juice with a little honey early morning is believed to be the effective anti-cellu- lite treatment. This is an effective remedy to speed up shedding pounds from your body. Again, honey and cinnamon is another powerful remedy for effec- tive weight loss. For people who love binge eating, hon- ey can be taken as an effec- tive remedy for digestion later on. Honey and Cosmetics Honey is widely used in many types of cosmetics like lip balm, face creams and shower gels. The rea- son behind this is because honey does not spoil due to its high sugar content. It has 50% more density than water. The osmotic proper- ty of honey attributes to its anti-bacterial property. Honey is a thick liquid that acts as a perfect skin and hair conditioner. It brings smoothness to the skin and hair. Hence, is used in cos- metics and shampoos. Honey and Antiseptic Properties Generally in hospitals, doctors prefer hydrogen peroxide to clean wounds so they heal quickly. The same chemical is present in honey in very good amounts. It is released by diluting honey in water or body fluids. When it is applied on the open wounds, especially burn wounds, the glucose pre- sent in honey dilutes gradually releasing hydro- gen peroxide and due to its viscous constituency, honey prevents wounds from sticking to the dress- ing and there are little or no scars after healing.
