  2. 2. <ul><li>Samuel Langhorne Clemens known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American author and humorist. </li></ul><ul><li>He was born in Florida Missouri, on November 30, 1835, to a Tennessee country merchant, John Marsall Clemens and Jane Lampton Clemens. </li></ul>Samuel Clemens, age 15
  3. 3. Twain ' s family <ul><li>Twain was the sixth of seven children. Only three of his siblings survived childhood: his brother Orion, Henry, who died in a riverboat explosion and Pamela. His sister Margaret died when Twain was three, and his brother Benjamin died three years later. Another brother, Pleasant died at six months. In March 1847, when Twain was 11, his father died of pneumonia. </li></ul>

  5. 5. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn <ul><li>Twain's major published work, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, solidified him as a noteworthy American writer. Some have called it the first Great American Novel, and the book has become required reading in many schools throughout the United States. Huckleberry Finn was an offshoot from Tom Sawyer and had a more serious tone than its predecessor. The main premise behind Huckleberry Finn is the young boy's belief in the right thing to do though most believed that it was wrong. </li></ul>
