ICT enables the connectivity and interoperability of
individual buildings and networks and will be used to
ensure that existing and new buildings meet the current
and emerging requirements for energy efficiency defined
in relation to the surrounding infrastructure and climate

Design, production, retrofitting, use and demolition are
empowered and enabled by re-configuration, optimisation,
and access to real-time information, decision support tools
and interoperability in easy to use interfaces.

ICT enables and supports renewal of business and
processes driven by energy efficiency. Buildings have
evolved from energy consumers to “prosumers” (producer
+ consumer)

10. Draft Research Roadmap (D2.4)
• Suggests research priorities in the domain of ICT for Energy Efficient
Buildings across the life cycle including design, construction, operations
and integration with district level energy systems.
• Includes 5 roadmap tables based on the 5 main categories and 17 sub-
categories of the prioritized research topics. Each table describes
briefly:
• State of the art
• Short-term research priorities (~3 years to industrial usage;
adaptation, testing & take up of new technologies, etc.)
• Medium-term research priorities (~6 years to industrial usage;
development of new applications and incremental technologies, etc.)
• Long term research priorities (~9 years to industrial usage; radical
technical developments, etc.)
• Vision (~desirable future situation based on currently foreseen
