  11. 11. • Thus it must not be mere learning of subjects but must have specific objectives i.e. towards fulfilment of obligations which has to be carried out in our Being (thoughts, words and deeds). • This obligations are dependent upon our situation and state of Being (spiritual station – ‘HAAL’ or ‘MAQOM’). • The quantum may be increased and more important, the quality of being in a particular state - may always change, increase/decrease. • An important bestowal that we seek from Allah in this pursuit towards excellence is “ISTIQOMAH ” – when Allah grant us firmness in our station thus attained. All Rights Reserved© Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2012)
  12. 12. • It begins with the most basic state of Islam (submission), which one gradually progresses towards higher stations, culminating with TAQWA – the state which Allah distinguishes difference in nobility amongst mankind. • And the reality (HAQIQAH) of our existence is that we are tested in matter of our relationships – from inner to outer, from creations to the Creator, from self to family, to neighbours, to society, to nations, to world and beyond – from the world to the Hereafter, etc. • And it requires our adherence to a single consciousness – within a TAUHEEDIC worldview – without ever being disloyal or false to our claim of being Witnesses to Allah’s Absolute Oneness and gratefully acknowledging His Compassionate Justice (QISTw).All Rights Reserved© Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2012)

There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise. Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is AL-ISLAM. And those who were given the Scripture did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And whoever disbelieves in the verses of Allah, then indeed, Allah is swift in [taking] account.” (Qur’an: Aali ‘Imran: 3: 18-19)All Rights Reserved© Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2012)

To know their places and accord them their due. • It is suggested that for which ever lessons, mind-map should be drawn and annotated wherever relevant as we go along. The subject matter may seem disparate, but actually they are interconnected wholistically – i.e. connected to the Divine Plan. For “we are in the world but not of this world.” • WaAllaahu a’lam. All Rights Reserved© Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2012)

  61. 61. TASAWWUR ISLAM  “Imitating (or copying, emulating someone) is the sincerest form of flattery (praise)!” is an English proverb.  It reveals an obvious truth which we should consider, whether we have acted truthfully and sincerely, when we regard our Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. as the most beloved and best of Allah’s creation (KHAYR-AL-KHAL-QIL-LAH).  He, whose name is “the praised one”, indeed is praised by Allah, Who is the Creator of every creation: “And thou (Muhammad) standest on an exalted standard of character.” (Qur’an: Qalam: 68: 4)All Rights Reserved© Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2012)
  62. 62. TASAWWUR ISLAM  Note: Therefore ultimately it is in the Prophet Muhammad’s noble AKHLAQ that we must strive to imitate and instil in ourselves.  Yet, mere outward conformity alone can lead to hypocrisy (NIFAQ) or ostentatious (RIYA ’) or even conceit (‘UJUB). We seek refuge in Allah s.w.t. from being afflicted by these evil traits.  The inner cleansing (TAZKIYYA AL-NAFS ) and constancy (ISTIQOMAH) in striving (MUJAHADAH), with seeking Allah’s TAUFIQ and Guidance, is crucial. Thus, apart from having correct belief (AQEEDAH), conforming with correct ‘AMALIYYAH (outward deeds) we also require inculcation of noble disposition (AKHLAQ AL-KAREEMA ).All Rights Reserved© Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2012)

  64. 64. 66. 66. TASAWWUR ISLAM ADVICE FROM MY PARENT, TEACHERS AND PREDECESSORS *  Regarded as a MUJADDID of the Ba-’Alawi of his time, Imam al- Habib ‘Abdullah bin ‘Alwi al-Haddad incorporated within the teachings and practices of Islam which BANI ’ALAWY scholars spread (especially in the Nusantara) , all the three components of AQEEDA-FIQH-TASAWWUF.  Regarding AQEEDAH – in following the Madzhab of Imam Abul Hassan al-’Ash-’ary; and FIQH of Madzhab Imam Ash-Shafi-’ie, incorporating some practices unique to Ahlul-Bayt.  While in TASAWWUF, actually it already provides a TARIQAH, but of the general type, which has been consistently but ‘unconsciously’ and inconspicuously practiced for generations since then. All Rights Reserved© Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2012)
  67. 67. TASAWWUR ISLAM ADVICE FROM MY PARENT, TEACHERS AND PREDECESSORS *  To differentiate this TARIQAH from the specialises TURUQ, he termed it as the way or the “TARIQAH - AHLUL-YAMEEN”.  A ‘TARIQAH’ is a methodology involving spiritual practices of Dzikr, Wirid, Du’a, Suluk, etc. - practiced with supervision or guidance of an accomplished teacher who serves as Mursheed (Guide).  For generations our ‘Ulama in Nusantara have been fulfilling this role – without need to use the term TARIQAH, even. All Rights Reserved© Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2012)
  68. 68. TASAWWUR ISLAM ADVICE FROM MY PARENT, TEACHERS AND PREDECESSORS *  As many of these practices in this “TARIQAH - AHLUL-YAMEEN”, or “TARIQAH BA-’ALAWY”, are already supported with basis from authenticated sources from the Prophet s.a.w. , and from established practices of well-known ‘Ulama for generations by generations of practitioners, it can be followed by all Muslims, even without the personalised “Bai-’at”, unlike in other TURUQ.  Thus we find in this region, that the Muslims here already practices almost similar if not identical spiritual exercises viz. Awrad, Dzikr’, Du’a, Ratib, etc. from how Islam was taught for several generations - without any fanfare avoiding ostentation. All Rights Reserved© Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2012)
