  1. 1. PROPOSAL : PERGAS INDAH ( Institute Da’awah PERGAS ) A follow-up from “ PENTAULIAHAN ASATIZAH ” and our proposed move to Waqaf Kassim (Wisma Indah) E.O. (R&D)

INTRODUCTION <ul><li>This proposal is a logical direction which PERGAS must forge, complementing our proposal to MUIS for us to undertake the “ Accreditation of Asaatizah ”. </li></ul><ul><li>This also coincide with our proposed shift to a new premise at waqaf Kassim, which places upon PERGAS greater urgency to assert ourselves in the field of Islamic Da’awah and Education . </li></ul>
  3. 3. INTRODUCTION <ul><li>“ INDAH” has been our dream objective which we have set for our MMP ( Madrasah Mingguan PERGAS ). The time for a clearer crystallisation of what we meant by INDAH has to be initiated. Thus, this paper will delineate “ PERGAS INDAH ” role from the main general MMP program, concentrating mainly on the professional training aspect for Asaatizah - not unlike the National Institute of Education. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Areas of Development <ul><li>PERGAS INDAH SHOULD ONLY CONCENTRATE ON 3 MAJOR AREAS : </li></ul><ul><li>Ideological / values / philosophy </li></ul><ul><li>Content - Curriculum </li></ul><ul><li>Pedagogical / teaching skills </li></ul>

Ideological / values / philosophy <ul><li>History of the Ulama’ since the Prophets era till present day </li></ul><ul><li>Islamic perspective of aims & objectives of Education </li></ul><ul><li>Concept of knowledge and the process of Islamization </li></ul><ul><li>Adab for Islamic teachers </li></ul>
  6. 6. Content - curriculum <ul><li>Teachers will be : thoroughly appraised as to the curriculum, the specific instructional objectives, the textbooks,latest methods and other resource materials etc. - at the level in which they will be teaching. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Pedagogical - teaching skills <ul><li>Teachers to be trained in : </li></ul><ul><li>child and human psychology; presentation skills; classroom management; cooperative learning methods; creative learning methods; aids /tools for accelerated learning; etc. </li></ul>
  8. 8. WHAT IS REQUIRED ? <ul><li>Assess our programs - strength and weakness, resources, identify present modules which can be incorporated, personnels etc. </li></ul>
  9. 9. WHAT IS REQUIRED ? <ul><li>Set up a working committee ( integrating all Depts .) to ensure coordination towards realizing INDAH . This proposal cannot simply be left to only one or two departments. </li></ul>
  10. 10. WHAT IS REQUIRED ? <ul><li>Chart out overall schedule for attainment . </li></ul><ul><li>Set time frame (short-term / long- term) with realistic measurement for gauging result . If need be to appoint a full-time Director. </li></ul>

PRESENT POTENTIALS IDENTIFIED <ul><li>Already had several modules done in conjunction with MUIS/PERGAS /PERDAUS training of Asaatizah program. </li></ul><ul><li>Instead of merely relying on these (which is rather adhoc ), we could consolidate key modules into a certificated course. There should be core modules ( asasi ) which every Asatizah must be equipped with, as distinct from specialized subjects . </li></ul>

PRESENT POTENTIALS IDENTIFIED <ul><li>Already several modules which presently is done under e.g. ‘Lanjutan’, ‘Tafaqquf-fi-al-Din’,TTC program etc. </li></ul><ul><li>We should distinguish those modules which perhaps may be more towards academic development and those which comes under professional development . </li></ul><ul><li>MMP should specialize more towards the basic academic development. </li></ul>

PRESENT POTENTIALS IDENTIFIED <ul><li>Amongst us there are those who are master-trainers (or have been trained in teaching institute], as well as those who specialized in Education per se . </li></ul><ul><li>Instead of them merely teaching common subjects, give them a role to apply their specialization. Even the senior Asaatizah can be utilized to tap their years of teaching experience. </li></ul>

PRESENT POTENTIALS IDENTIFIED <ul><li>Alumni -graduates from Islamic Institutes amongst our members </li></ul><ul><li>We must utilize their affiliations to link-up PERGAS to these Institutes, especially with credible institutes that can give us, not only their professional assistance and experience, but also their endorsement for our training programs . We may not have to ‘re-invent the wheel.’ </li></ul>

PRESENT POTENTIALS IDENTIFIED <ul><li>The sprouting of commercial Islamic schools (set up by our members) </li></ul><ul><li>There is already a niche for PERGAS to support them through providing would-be teachers of these schools. This will ensure not only credibility but provide PERGAS with control over the standards of teaching Islam in Singapore ( complementing the ’Accreditation of Asatizah’ proposal. ) </li></ul>
  16. 16. PRESENT POTENTIALS IDENTIFIED <ul><li>The name WISMA INDAH which MUIS has chosen for the building : </li></ul><ul><li>The opportunity for PERGAS to create for ourselves a specialized niche. The term WISMA INDAH should, within 3 years, becomes synonymous with PERGAS ’s role. The publicity exposure WISMA INDAH will then be a bonus. </li></ul>

Our Vision “ Allah will establish in strength those who believe, with the Words that stand firm, in this world and in the Hereafter ..” (Qur’an : Ibrahim : 14 : 27) “ You are indeed the best community that has ever been brought forth for [the good of ] mankind: you enjoin the doing of what is right and forbid the doing of what is wrong, and you believe in Allah.” (Qur’an : Ali’Imran : 3 110)
