Following Jesus <ul><li>Means that we become a part of His Body ( I Corinthians 12:12ff) and members of His Family ( John 1:12; Romans 8:16) </li></ul><ul><li>Means obeying Him ( Matthew 7:21; John 14:15) </li></ul><ul><li>Means loving as He loved (John 13:33-34; Matthew 22:37-39; Romans 12:9; I John 2:15-17) </li></ul>
  3. 3. Following Jesus <ul><li>Results in a life of eternal purpose (John 10:10) </li></ul><ul><li>Results in eternal life in the presence of God (John 3:16; I John 2:17; I John 2:25; Titus 1:1-3) </li></ul>
  4. 4. Baptism <ul><li>We practice “Immersion” because the Greek word for baptism means “to immerse;” </li></ul><ul><li>OUR ordinance of baptism is rooted in the events of Matthew 3:13ff, when Jesus was baptized by John; </li></ul>
  5. 5. Baptism <ul><ul><ul><li>Jesus was baptized as an act of solidarity with us. He identified with the sinners He came to save; </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>When we are baptized, we stand in solidarity with Jesus, identifying with Him; </li></ul></ul></ul>
  6. 6. Why Be Baptized? <ul><li>It follows the example of Jesus; Matthew 3:13 </li></ul><ul><li>It is in obedience to His command; Matthew 28:19 </li></ul><ul><li>It is a public profession of new life in Christ; Romans 6:4-5 </li></ul>
  7. 7. How Do I “Grow” as a Follower of Jesus? <ul><li>Read, study, hear, and apply the Bible. It is God’s word to us; 2 Timothy 2:15 </li></ul><ul><li>Prayer is our verbal communication with God; I Thessalonians 5:17 </li></ul><ul><li>Be part of a Community; Hebrews 10:24ff </li></ul><ul><li>Tell Others; Acts 1:8 </li></ul>
  8. 8. The Lord’s Supper <ul><li>Is a commemoration of Jesus’ death; I Corinthians 11:24-27 </li></ul><ul><li>is a Divine Command; Luke 22:19 </li></ul><ul><li>is a blessed privilege, a gift of grace; </li></ul><ul><li>is a necessary memorial reminding us of the cost of our redemption; </li></ul>

The Lord’s Supper <ul><li>is a willing testimony, giving us opportunity to testify our identification with Jesus; </li></ul><ul><li>is a humbling confession, an admission that we cannot save ourselves; </li></ul><ul><li>is an act of faith, looking forward to the 2 nd coming of Jesus; </li></ul>
