Transmission of Malaria

  1. 1. Life Cycle of MalarialParasites An infected female Anopheles mosquito bites a person and injects themalaria parasites (sporozoites) into the blood. After inoculation, sporozoites migrate to liver cells to from bloodstreamand multiply to produce many mesozoites. After an incubation period of 12 days to 10 months, the parasites leaveliver and enter the red blood cell where they multiply asexually producingmore mesozoites. The red blood cell burst, releasing the mezoites as toxins. The release of toxins triggers high fever, generalised aches and nauseawhich will occur for 10 days.
