Types of Pronouns
What are
pronouns?
Pronouns:
A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a
noun.
Today we are going to
consider 3 types of
pronouns. Let’s read a
few sentences to see
them in action:
1. I moved to Manitoba several years ago.
2. They gave me several books from the
library.
3. Our car is parked over there.
What kind of pronouns are these?
Let’s study the chart below:
Subject
pronouns
Object pronouns Possessive pronouns

morning.

– “I” is a subject pronoun. It is at the
beginning of a sentence. The noun it
is usually the subject of a verb (doer of the
action).
Let’s take a closer look!
They gave me several books from the
library.
– “Me” is an object pronoun. It receives the
action of the verb in the sentence.
Let’s take a closer look!
Our car is parked over there.
– “Our” is an possessive pronoun. They
function as determiners in front of a noun
describe whom something belongs to: "I
said that's my phone.".
Let’s take a closer look!
The possessive pronouns referred to in
this program are also referred to as
weak pronouns or possessive
adjectives because they modify the
nouns that follow them.
A note on pronouns
Strong and weak possessive pronouns
