Fossil fuels powerpoint

 1. 1. Fossil Fuels
Tag Choi
2. 2. What are Fossil fuels
Fossil fuels are fuels formed by natural resources such as anaerobic decomposition of buried dead organisms.
3. 3. What are the different types of fossil fuels?
Coal, Oil, and natural gas are three major kinds of fossil fuels
4. 4. How is coal formed?
Coal is called a fossil fuel because it was formed from the remains of vegetation that grew as long as 400 million years ago. It is often referred to as "buried sunshine," because the plants which formed coal captured energy from the sun through photosynthesis to create the compounds that make up plant tissues. The most important element in the plant material is carbon, which gives coal most of its energy
5. 5. Describe the different stages of coal formation?
There are three different stages of coal formation
Those are peat, lignite, coal
Peat is soggy
Lignite gets harder than peat
Coal is the hardest one.
6. 6. How is coal used as a fossil fuel?
It used to be the source or gas for old trains. Now days people use them a lot by using charcoals.
7. 7. How is oil formed?
prehistoric plant and animal remains washed into the seas along with sand and silt.
8. 8. How is oil used as a fossil fuel?
People use oil for all kinds of the machines.
9. 9. How is natural gas formed?
The widely held theory of the origin of natural gas is that it is composed of the remnants of decayed plant and animal matter that has been subjected to immense pressure under the earth’s crust over millions of years. This formation of natural gas is referred to as thermogenic methane and it is made in a similar fashion to oil.
10. 10. How is natural gas used as a fossil fuel?
Everyone uses natural gas by using gas range
11. 11. What are refineries and why are they important to the production of fossil fuels?
It is an industrial process plant where crude oil is processed and refined into more useful petroleum products.
It helps to make everything useful to human.
12. 12. Exxon Valdez oil spill
About 10.8 million gallons of crude oil were spilled by hitting the Prince William reef.
A lot of animals died.
13. 13. The Deep Water Horizon oil
At least 210,000 US gallons of crude oil were spilled per day
It was at gulf of Mexico.
