    1. 1. “CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM DISEASES” Brain Tumor GROUP MEMBERS: FAKHRUNNISA ASGHAR ONAIZA ASHRAF AREEBA SAJID NIDA FATIMA KHADIJA MOHSIN CONDUCTED BY: MRS ARSHIA SAEED (BIOLOGY TEACHER)
    2. 2. “PATIENT’S HISTORY”  Male.  89 years.  6’ 2”, 150Lbs.  Pakistani.  Physically unfit.  Presenting Complain:  Slurred speech.  Paralysis on half face.
    3. 3. “HISTORY OF PRESENTING COMPLAIN”  The concerned patient is a motor mechanic. He started to develop headache which was initially not very severe but with the going time, the headaches result in fits.  Vomiting, drowsiness, blurring of vision also accompanied the effect of fits.  When the person was examined, paralysis of half face was found.
    4. 4. “ON EXAMINATION!!”  On examination, the positive findings were:  Brain cancer.  Brain tumor.  Paralysis.
    5. 5. “PROVISIONAL DIAGNOSIS”  On the basis of the positive results of our examination, we proposed the following diagnostic procedures and the results were as follow:  Neurological Examination- physician test reflexes, muscle strength, eye and mouth movement, coordination and alertness.  CBC.  X-Ray-------Space occupying leis ion was found.  MRI----------Space occupying leis ion was found.  CT SCAN--------Space occupying leis ion was found.
    6. 6. “WHAT CAUSES BRAIN TUMOR?”  On the basis of the results of our proposed diagnostic procedures, we suspected Encephalitis disease caused due to:  Abnormalities of genes involved in cell cycle control, causing uncontrolled cell growth.  Certain genetic conditions (i.e. neurofibromatosis, von Hippel-Lindau disease, Li-Frameni syndrome and retinoblastoma).  Certain chemical toxins. Abnormality of Genes
    7. 7. “TREATMENT FOR BRAIN TUMOR”  The proposed treatments are:  Surgery.  Chemotherapy.  Radiation therapy.  Steroids for CSF pressure.  Anti-seizure medication.  VP shunt.  Spinal tap.  Bone marrow transplantation.  Antibiotics.  Stereo tactic radio surgery.  Gene therapy.
    8. 8. “DISEASE OUTLOOK”  A brain tumor is an abnormal growth of tissue in the brain. the tumor can either originate in the brain itself or come from another part of the body and travel to the brain.  Brain tumor may be classified as either benign (non cancerous) or malignant (cancerous) depending on their behavior.  Brain tumors are third leading cause of death from cancer in persons ages 20-39.  Brain tumors are the most common solid tumors in children.  More research is needed to improve treatment, decrease side effects of disease and develop a cure.
