Editor's Notes
With our R61, T61 and X61 notebooks – created the best ThinkPads ever along a number of dimensions: Best-Engineered ThinkPads: Technology and Design: New LCD Top Cover Roll Cage Customer benefits: Most durable ThinkPads ever achieve a 4x reduction in transmitted stress to the LCD; also roll cage design helps deliver the best wireless performance Individualized Battery Control: Technology: BatteryStretch: Individualized, precise power control of Power Manager at component level. Customer benefit: Users can manage their power consumption at the component level to squeeze out the last 10 percent of battery life in any situation (e.g. long airplane rides with critical work to complete) Coolest and Quietest: Technology: New cooling system design for fan, heatsink, and venting. Customer benefits: 10% cooler, up to 3dB quieter; less heat and vibration = better quality Best Wireless Performance: Technologies: UltraConnect II Wireless Antennas, new structure of LCD cover (Roll Cage), and the integrated antenna w/o a bump Customer benefit: Improved wireless design delivers 3dB better signal sensitivity, which translates to more reliable connections; coupled with Access Connections, design provides an unequalled wireless experience Most Secure Notebooks: Technology: 32 bit HDD password w/ HDD encryption SW Disable all the I/O Ports Customer benefit: Full encryption tied to the fingerprint authentication keeps the most sensitive information private; centralized I/O port control eliminates leakage of information through removable storage. Humorous example – some organizations have resorted to squeezing super-glue into USB ports to prevent usage; with port control – they can stop doing this! Extreme Performance: Technology: Intel Turbo Memory card Customer benefits: Deliver 45% faster hard-drive performance and 5% better battery life, as well as f aster boot time and better multi-tasking capabilities
Key message here is we’ve invested heavily to address one of the key areas of feedback from our customers: Manageability and integration with strategic MS platforms like Active Directory, SMS and Vista AD/SMS the key deliverable of the May ’06 announcements Vista in Jan. w/ Day 1 support ImageUltra Services Vista Support Other technology adds Easy peer to peer support in SMA makes VSB, SMB and LE user-managed migration much easier – navigate the firewall waters… Broad / Leadership Wireless WAN support – most vendors (?), 1 st to market w/ 3G, Loose Ful integration w/ AC Mention vPro & Intel w/ R&R? (TVT’s and Lenovo hardware are extensively used through many of the Intel white papers on the value of vPro e.g. EDS, Atos) – Leadership position w/ Virtualization – unique positioned to provide best architecture and value. TVSU becomes manageable so small businesses and large can deliver their updates with their policies

Placeholder - Presentation title | 6 April, 2006 Now let me give you a great recent example about how Lenovo quality . Dell recently introduced a new Latitude notebook that it markets as “rugged:” The New Dell D620/630 ATG claims to meet the Mil-STD 810F specification for ruggedized notebooks. This is true, but only meets four subcategories of this specification. ThinkPad notebooks (14W T61 AND R61) meets 3 out of 4 of the same specifications! And, even after exposure to blowing dust (MIL-STD-810F, Method 510.4, Proc. I) where dust accumulated in between the keyboard, touch pad buttons, and cooling systems and vents, the unmodified ThinkPad T61 booted up after brushing off the dust and bypassing the warning message. In addition, ThinkPad passed two additional tests 1) High Temperature (MIL-STD 810F, Method 501.4) and 2) Temperature Shock (MIL-STD 810F, Method 503.4) And our 14W offerings are much lighter, thinner and almost half the price! How is that for routing the competition on quality? - - - - - - - - Thirty Party Testing showed ThinkPad T61 & R61 passes these tests under MIL-STD 810F 500.4 Low Pressure (Altitude) 507.4 Humidity 514.5 Vibration 501.4 High Temperature 503.4 Temperature Shock - - - - - Rugged and Reliable Quality at no extra cost The ThinkPad T61 is a high-performance business notebook with quality and innovative features common to all Lenovo Notebooks. Features such as the patented active protection system (APS) continuously monitors and self-protects the hard drive from incoming damaging shock and vibration, even if subjected to the harsh environment. The ThinkPad T61 and 14W R61 are also equipped with top and bottom roll cages which provide additional mechanical protection to critical components within the system; and the thermal design enables the system to operate quietly and without overheating even in extreme hot, humid conditions or where large extremes in temperatures and even altitudes may occur. While other OEMs offer special models in order to meet similar requirements - at a considerable premium uplift in price, the ThinkPad T61 meets the stringent MIL-STD 810F test requirements for operational and non-operational vibration, high humidity, altitude, high temperature, and thermal shock at no additional cost or modifications. Even after exposure to blowing dust (MIL-STD-810F, Method 510.4, Proc. I) where dust accumulated in between the keyboard, touch pad buttons, and cooling systems and vents, the unmodified ThinkPad T61 booted up after brushing off the dust and bypassing the warning message. Meets Military Standards (MIL-STD 810F) In independent third party testing, the 14W Lenovo T61 and 14W R61 met MIL-STD 810F standards for vibration (Method 514, Proc I, Cat. 20 & 24), humidity (Method 507.4), Altitude (Method 500.4 Low Pressure, Proc. I; Operational up to 10k feet), High Temperature (Method 501.4, standard) and Thermal Shock (Method 503.4).
