TRAFFIC, the wildlife trade monitoring network, in cooperation with the Haikou Branch of CITES Management Authority, the Department of Ocean & Fisheries of Hainan Province, Quinghai Radio, and Tanmen Town Government, hosted a marine turtle advocacy event called “Ocean, Home of Love” last December.

The Marine Turtle Conservation Advocacy event was held in a port in Tanmen – asmall town in Hainan province where the main source of local livelihoodsdepends on fishing, unfortunately, outlawed hunting of marine turtles and otherendangered marine species prevail here. Before the event, we dispatchedadvocacy posters and pamphlets to local fishermen. 01/11/13 2
  3. 3. Before the event, advocacy recording was broadcasted around the town. Localcitizens were encouraged to make a pledge to protect marine turtles, not to catchmarine turtles, produce or trade marine turtle products. The youth took the leadin making this promise. 01/11/13 3
