Online learning environments

 1. 1. Building Online Learning Environments By: Wendy L. Siwek
 2. 2. My Online Classroom

I created an online classroom that I would like to use with my 4th, 5th and 6th grade computer students. I used webteachertools.com, which offered free hosting of my Moodle.

For my 6th Grade class I hope to incorporate Google Docs as part of their assignments.

The link for my moodle:

http://webteachertools.com/wtt/course/view.php?id=592

 3. 3. My Online Classroom

I see many benefits for using an online classroom such as the one I created. It really allowed me to incorporate a lot of different forms of media.

I also liked that I could post my rubric on my classroom page and the students can access it whenever necessary.

I did get “stuck” on some areas but I was able to locate many helpful videos online, which gave step by step instructions.

I hope to continue to build this classroom as the year continues.

 4. 4. Online Learning & Evaluation Tools

The online tools examples that were provided were extremely helpful.

I have used Rubistar in the past for making Rubrics. I like this particular resource because it allows you to customize each rubric to your specific needs of assessment.

An example of one of my rubrics:

http://rubistar.4teachers.org/index.php?screen=ShowRubric&rubric_id=1955556&

 5. 5. Online Learning & Evaluation Tools

The lesson plan resources offered many examples and ideas for different lessons.

I liked how the lesson plans were organized by topics, which made it easy to locate a relevant lesson.

I created my lesson plans in Google Docs.

 6. 6. Online Learning & Evaluation Tools

Some examples of online learning and evaluation tools:

RubiStar

iRubric

Kathy Schrock's Rubric

Lesson Planet

The Gateway

Lesson Plan Page

 7. 7. Online Assessment Tools

Using online quizzes and surveys educators can gain valuable information.

Some online assessment tools:

Google Docs forms

Obsurvey

Quizstar

Zoho Challenger

 8. 8. Online Assessment Tools

I thought all of the options had their pros and cons depending what you are using them for and what age of student you are teaching.

I did have trouble with quizstar, I did not see an option to share it or send it out to someone so they could take the quiz. It did not seem as user friendly as some other for the sharing option.

 9. 9. Differentiated Instruction

There are many ways a student can display their understanding of a topic. Some of these options are (there many, many more):

Glogster

Timetoast

Lino

My differentiated instruction projects: http://linoit.com/users/wsiwek/canvases/Phillies%20Phever !!!

http://www.timetoast.com/timelines/82929

 10. 10. Online Learning

I personally really enjoy the online learning experience.

It allows you to complete the assigned tasks at your own pace and comfort level.

The instructor was very helpful with any questions and provided excellent examples and resources for all portions of my online learning.

The moodle was extremely organized and easy to follow. All of the assignments were clearly defined.

 11. 11. Online Learning

Overall I would highly recommend an online class, specifically a class of this nature.

Even though I have taken other online classes, I am continually learning new resources that I can take back to my classroom. I feel this is extremely important especially with the constant changes in technology every day.
