  3. 3. Mission & ConceptMISSION: The Atlas Coalition bring individuals and communities together through education, preparedness and collaboration. We offer humble service to deliver relief and recovery aid during unexpected hardship, by enabling neighbors to connect with and assist neighbors.CONCEPT: The Atlas Coalition (AC) empowers local volunteers through training, networking, technology and access to resources in order to enhance individual preparedness and crisis management. The National AC staff leverages existing volunteer networks to create an integrated yet decenteralized relief organization that maximize member skills and interest. Web based technology as well as traditional mediums of communication are employed to aid in rapid identification and validation of requirements followed by the collection, transportation and distribution of resources in coordination with other relief organizations and civil authorities. AC volunteers may coordinate relief locally, deploy into the crisis area to support or provide relief from their local areas. AC focuses on supporting the longer term needs of citizens effected by crisis by constant assessment and feedback through local members. Finally, AC solicits for donations and victim relief through demonstrated actions and, when appropriate, local, regional and national media. 3
  4. 4. Guiding Principles• Develop and leverage network of affiliated groups (+) to provide localized relief when and where needed.• Attempt to fill niche needs, avoid duplication and maximize resources• Function as decentralized as possible with as much autonomy as possible• Develop systems and procedures that work equally well at the local or national level (decentralized)• Network groups and resources to meet requirements• Do not become a burden or hindrance to other relief organizations• Leverage technology as much as possible but build redundant capabilities• Attempt to retain interest and support long after crisis in order to meet enduring needs• Maintaining credibility throughout any activity is critical• Maintain strong internal and external communication and information programs during all operations 4
  5. 5. Operations 1. Atlas Coalition members will not be a burden on others 2. Atlas Coalition groups and affiliates will aid our fellow citizens during local* crisis or disasters. 3.
