Pelé courage project

  1. 1. Pe lé James Buckley Jr. Presented by Cole Harris
  2. 2. Pel é’s dad badly injured his knee playing soccer and Pelé kept going with his soccer career, in spite of his father’s injury and his mother’s warnings. Pel é went to a different town to play soccer for a team when he was only 15. He lived without his parents and with his teammates for many months. He got homesick many time. Time Line When Pelé went to his first World Cup, he was only 17 and the youngest player on the team. He could have been nervous about doing bad in front of the crowd and teammates. Despite this, Pelé scored a hat- trick in one of the rounds.
  3. 3. Pelé badly strained his left groin in his second World Cup training, and still played in all the World Cup games. This could have resulted in getting even more seriously hurt or worse. When Pel é was only 18, he went to fight in the army and even when he was in the army, he played for five soccer teams. Pelé could have gotten badly hurt or even killed. Time Line Pel é trusted a man named Gordo with all of his finances. Gordo was a friend of one of Pelé’s fellow teammates. This could end up badly.
  4. 4. Pel é was going to retire, but he suddenly owed people lots of money, so he moved to the U.S.A. to get more money. He got about 4.5 million dollars to play with the Cosmos for three years (a HUGE amount of money for that time). Brazil could have gotten mad at him for moving and he could have been disliked by many people for moving. One game Pel é was scheduled to play in a country that was in the middle of a civil war. The country wanted Pelé to play so bad they stop fighting to see him play. Pelé could have gotten in the middle of a conflict and gotten hurt. When Pel é went back to school, even though he was a star soccer player, he got teased and was subject to hazing. Pelé stuck with school and never got discouraged or stopped going. Time Line
  5. 5. Popular One example of Pelé being popular is in the book it says when Pel é was only 15 he got interviewed many, many times and got asked to join many teams. The author said “Hundreds of miles from home, a boy among men. Another example is when Pelé was 16, he was chosen to play for the Brazilian National Soccer Team. Pelé also made the Brazilian World Cup Team that same year and Brazil won the World Cup.
  6. 6. Generous One way that Pel é was generous was when he won his first soccer tournament that he got money from. He spent most of his money for groceries and other needs. Another way is when Pelé was only seven years old, he got his first job as a shoe shiner. Although he only earned a couple pennies, he gave it to his family to help them out. A third example is that sometimes after he finished his job as a shoe shiner, he would go over to where his dad worked and help him out.
  7. 7. Determined One way that Pel é was determined was that Pel é wanted to play soccer from when he was a child to when he was old. The author said “A boy who had not owned a pair of shoes until he was seven years old had become (in a stunningly short time) one very famous person.” He was determined to succeed and play soccer. When he did get a pair of shoes they were a nice pair of shoes, for nice occasions, he ruined them playing soccer in the dirt very soon after he got them.
  8. 8. Special Place This is a picture of Pelé on a soccer field with the 1962 World Cup ball. I made this his “special place” because he is known for being a soccer star and loved the soccer field.
  9. 9. Hero Button Never give up This is the 1962 World Cup trophy. Brazil won the World Cup that year and Pelé was on that team. Pelé won three World Cups in four World Cups. There is a World Cup every four years, so it took Pelé 16 years to win three World Cups.
  10. 10. Pel é’s restaurant Dress Code Hat Pelé scored many hat-tricks, including one in a World Cup. A hat trick is when a player scores 3 or more goals in a single game. Rosemary Roasted Potatoes Pelé married a women named Rosemari. Appetizers Cup Noodles Pel é went to four World Cups and won three of them and scored a hat trick in his first. Main Course
  11. 11. Pel é’s restaurant And remember, this restaurant has a great view of the Cosmos!! Pelé played for a team called the New York Cosmos from 1975 to 1977. Requirements You must be a soccer star or have served in the army. Pel é served in the army when he was 18 and he was one or the greatest soccer star of all-time.
