  2. 2. Early life of Eric Carle <ul><li>Born on June, 1929 in Syracuse, New York </li></ul><ul><li>Born to German parents Eric and Johanna Carle </li></ul><ul><li>Parents got married in a Lutheran Church in 1928 </li></ul>

The Works of Eric Carle <ul><li>Wrote many different types of children’s books that help teach children about the world </li></ul><ul><li>The most famous of Carle’s work is probably “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” </li></ul><ul><li>Usually contain the word “Very” in the title </li></ul><ul><li>Also known for books such as “The Very Quiet Cricket”, “The Very Long Tail”, “The Very Busy Spider”, and many, many more </li></ul><ul><li>Has written around 100 books and has sold over 88 million copies of his books </li></ul>

Major Personal Events In His Life <ul><li>Father put a great amount of influence on him to be a writer </li></ul><ul><li>When he was 15 he had to start digging trenches on the Siegfried line </li></ul><ul><li>In 1952 he moved back to the U.S. and landed a job as a graphic designer for the New York Times </li></ul><ul><li>He got his first major writing job after an author discovered an illustration of a Lobster for an add he drew in the paper </li></ul><ul><li>From the Lobster illustration he landed a job doing illustrations for “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” </li></ul><ul><li>Received an honorary doctorate from Bates College in 2007 </li></ul><ul><li>Strongly influenced by nature. He used to take long walks into the woods </li></ul>

Influence On The Art World <ul><li>Created and influenced a whole new style of collage art that has been mimicked by many different aspiring artists </li></ul><ul><li>Founded a Museum called “The Eric Carle Museum Of Picture Book Art” </li></ul><ul><li>Google paid tribute to Carle by incorporating the design of his book, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” into their logo </li></ul><ul><li>As of today, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” alone has sold over 29 million copies worldwide </li></ul>
