pd 7 group 4

 1. 2.

In a thunderstorm heavy rain falls, lighting flashes, thunder roars, and hail might fall.

 2. 3.

Thunderstorms need 3 things to come about.

Unstable air: relatively warm air that can rise quickly

Moisture: thunderstorms need moisture to form clouds and rain

Lift: something that is able to lift air to help form thunderstorms

 3. 4.

A thunderstorm begins when warm moist air is pushed upward, where it later cools causing condensation to occur, forming big cumulonimbus clouds. Later water vapor condenses into water droplets, smaller droplets collide to form large ones, and fall from the previously made cumulonimbus cloud onto Earth. Later comes the strong winds heard in thunderstorms made by cool air, caused by the rain, and strong updrafts of warmer air. Now you have a thunderstorm.

 4. 5.

Thunderstorms can cause flash flooding which can be dangerous because they occur with very little warning. They can cause hail which can be hard enough to cause damage to cars, aluminum siding on houses, and can destroy people’s plants and food( outside) in a matter of minutes.

 5. 6.

Lightning is usually made when warm air is lifted rapidly as cool air sinks, in a storm cloud. This moving of air may cause different parts of a cloud to become oppositely charged.

Lightning can occur in a cloud between clouds or between a cloud and the ground.

Lightning can reach temperatures of about 30,000 celsius , which is more than 5 times hotter than the surface of the sun.

 6. 7.

The extreme temperature causes air around lightning to expand rapidly, cool quickly, contract and make sound waves heard as thunder.

People’s chances of being struck by lightning maybe 1 in 600,000(unless you doing everything people tell you not to do during a thunderstorm)
