Overview A Manhattan on the rocks is the ultimate in classic and classy drinks. One is good, two are better 3 are wrong The formula is simple  American Whiskey or Bourbon  Sweet Vermouth  Angostura Aromatic Bitters  Maraschino Cherry with Stem  Clean ice 2 to 3 cubes  Splash clean cold water

Overview Attempts to make or drink anything but the classic formula are NOT classy A shaken Manhattan or not being served on the rocks is generally viewed as a ladies drink Made properly with equal portions of whiskey and vermouth the drink is smooth Bartenders that think they are doing a favor by adding to much Whiskey are wrong and create a bad drink

It does not need to be crystal but should be heavy and thick walled. The best drinks are at home Ironically with the correct ingredients and methodologies you can get a great Manhattan at a low cost bar Conversely bad Manhattans are common at expensive places

Overview Assuming the basics are in place there is NO BAD Manhattan – only better ones!!! I have found that many small places have the means to make a good Manhattan but do not know how – especially in Asia. Do not be afraid to show them  I have made initial drinks in Korea, Philippines, Singapore and even the States and from then on they have been great and I have made good friends.

Keep that in mind when ordering and consider your mood and the company you are with. Sometimes better to go with a shot or beer. If the bar makes it wrong do not get mad but do not accept it. Use as an opportuntiy to educate others.
