The Lakewood Project - Montgomery Design Associates

 1. 1. The Lakewood Project
 2. 2. The Lakewood Project

Two events were to happen for the Village of Lakewood . . .

In 1997, the Village-owned Championship RedTail Golf Course had had its identity repositioned by Montgomery & Associates. The Village's golf course management company had commissioned pro bono research by Montgomery & Associates. A new name was agreed upon by the Village, changing from Lakewood Golf Course to RedTail Golf Club. Montgomery & Associates designed a new logo, new signage, new scorecards and new stationery. An unexpected windfall resulted from the impression on the golf market of an all new golf course.

In 1998, the Village was to be Host to the Greater Chicagoland Homebuilders Association's Main Event . . . The Greater Chicagoland Parade of Homes. It would be held in the Village's premier subdivision, Turnberry, showcasing all new homes ranging from the mid-$250's to over $1 million in value.

Also occurring that year, the 65 th Anniversary of the founding of the Village of Lakewood. The Village had seemingly gone to sleep, forgetting its purpose over time. Overshadowed by its city neighbor, its charm and attraction as a desirable place to live had been left to be found or experienced by chance, with little help from its residents. An ad-hoc committee was formed to develop some tangible recognition of the 65 th Anniversary, guided and chaired by Village Board Trustee Bill Montgomery.

A 65 th Anniversary Celebration, including various events, was decided upon and approved by the Village Board. The Village Hall would be redecorated with new Board Room History Panels, depicting Lakewood over its life.

The Parade of Homes Event, combined with a 65 th Anniversary Celebration, presented a summer of occasion . . . An opportunity to rebuild and reawaken the Village image and awareness. The two events would be held in combination, beginning with an Anniversary Celebration in July and the Parade of Homes in September.

It was natural to package a new image for the Village and its RedTail Golf Course, its 65 th Anniversary and the 1998 Parade of Homes. This became “The Lakewood Project”.
