  13. 13. Cutting Tools CROSS CUT SAW o  Used to cut wood, but only across the grain
  14. 14. Cutting Tools RIP SAW o  Used to cut wood, but only with the grain
  15. 15. Cutting Tools CROSS or RIP SAWS o  Two saws look identical, but under close inspection you can see that the Rip Saw teeth are about twice the size of the Cross Cut Saw teeth
  16. 16. Cutting Tools SABRE SAW / JIG SAW o  Electrically powered hand saw used for making quick cuts or for cutting curves or internal cuts
  17. 17. Cutting Tools CIRCULAR SAW / SKIL SAW o  Electrically powered hand saw used for fast, straight cuts
  18. 18. Cutting Tools o  MATTE KNIFE o  CROSS CUT SAW o  RIP SAW o  SABRE SAW o  CIRCULAR SAW
  19. 19. Shaping Tools o  Used to shape the edges or smooth the surface of a piece of wood
  20. 20. Shaping Tools SURFORM RASP or PLANE o  Used to shape or smooth wood o  Like a cheese grater for wood
  21. 21. Shaping Tools BELT SANDER o  Used to make rough surfaces smooth o  Takes material off quickly
  22. 22. Shaping Tools ORBITAL or FINISH SANDER o  Used to make smooth surfaces smoother o  Does not take off material quickly
  23. 23. Shaping Tools ROUTER o  Used to shape the edge of a piece of wood or to carve details into a piece of wood
  24. 24. Shaping Tools o  SURFORM RASP or PLANE o  BELT SANDER o  ORBITAL or FINISH SANDER o  ROUTER
  25. 25. Boring Tools o  Used to drill holes into wood, metal and plastic
  26. 26. Boring Tools ELECTRIC HAND DRILL o  Used with different bits to drill holes into most materials
  27. 27. Boring Tools TWIST BITS o  Used to bore holes in wood, metal or plastic o  Sizes range from 1/32” to 1/2"
  28. 28. Boring Tools SPEEDBOR or BUTTERFLY BITS o  Used in an electric drill to bore medium to large (1/4” to 1-3/8”) holes in wood and other soft materials
  29. 29. Boring Tools o  ELECTRIC HAND DRILL o  TWIST BITS o  SPEEDBOR or BUTTERFLY BITS
  30. 30. Joining Tools o  Used to join two or more pieces of wood together
  31. 31. Joining Tools CURVED CLAW HAMMER o  Used to drive in nails o  Used to pull a nail out by its head
  32. 32. Joining Tools STRAIGHT CLAW or RIP HAMMER o  Used to drive in nails o  Used to pry or rip boards apart
  33. 33. Joining Tools CURVED & STRAIGHT CLAW HAMMERS o  Top hammer is a Curved Claw o  Bottom hammer is a Straight Claw
  34. 34. Joining Tools PNEUMATIC HAMMER or NAIL GUN o  Uses compressed air to drive nails into wood o  Different sizes are available, shown is a framing nailer
  35. 35. Joining Tools SLOTTED SCREWDRIVERS o  Used to insert or remove slotted head screws
  36. 36. Joining Tools PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER o  Used to insert or remove Phillips head (cross shaped) screws
  37. 37. Joining Tools CORDLESS SCREWDRIVER or SCREW GUN o  Battery powered electric drill fitted with a screwdriver bit o  Can also be fitted with twist or other drill bits o  Battery can be recharged and reused
  38. 38. Joining Tools STAPLE GUN o  Hand powered tool used to insert small staples
  39. 39. Joining Tools PNEUMATIC or AIR STAPLE GUN o  Uses compressed air to insert staples into wood o  Can use larger staples than a hand powered gun
  40. 40. Joining Tools HOT GLUE GUN o  Uses a heat activated glue to join materials together o  Fast, but not very strong
