  2. 2. Communism Communism in the story Animal Farm is reflected by the concept of Animalism. Animalism also represents one of the famous theories that the legendary Karl Marx coined. This is called Marxism.

Vladimir Lenin/ Karl Marx <ul><li>Vladimir Lenin and Karl Marx are mirrored in the novel Animal Farm by Old Major. </li></ul><ul><li>Marx was a political writer who concluded that the rich were unfair to the poor. He felt that the people who produce the wealth should share it. His ideas influenced Lenin many years later. </li></ul><ul><li>Lenin was one of the leaders of the Russian Revolution, and a contributor to the building of the modern Soviet Union. Eventually he became a dictator, the very thing he was fighting against. </li></ul>Lenin Marx
  4. 4. Josef Stalin <ul><li>In the book Animal Farm , Josef Stalin is mirrored by the character Napoleon. </li></ul><ul><li>Josef Stalin was one of the leaders during the Russian Revolution. He ruled the Soviet Union for 25 years, and under his rule his people suffered. He would “purge” his enemies in mass executions. During his rule, over 30,000,000 people died of starvation, execution, or were killed in the events of WW II. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Leon Trotsky <ul><li>Leon Trotsky is mirrored in Animal Farm by the character Snowball. </li></ul><ul><li>Leon Trotsky was also a leader of the Soviet Revolution. He organized the Red Army during The Russian Civil War. He was popular with the people and believed in industrializing the country, but in the end he was exiled by his enemy, Joseph Stalin. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Czar Nicholas II <ul><li>Czar Nicholas II is mirrored in Animal Farm by the character of Mr. Jones. </li></ul><ul><li>Nicholas II was the final Czar of Russia. He abdicated the throne in 1917, and one year later, his entire family, himself included, was executed by the Red Army. </li></ul>
