Building and strengthening virtuous relationships will remain central as students recognize their ability to serve the underprivileged.   4. 4. <ul><li>June 9 th – July 9 th 2010* </li></ul><ul><li>Students will have completed the academic school year </li></ul><ul><li>The trip will take place during the first summer term </li></ul><ul><li>Students will receive 4 high school credits </li></ul><ul><ul><li>2 Social Studies: Cultural Studies - Africa </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>1 English: Journalism </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>1 Fine Arts: Drumming </li></ul></ul>When?
  5. 5. <ul><li>During the first two weeks students will work on building projects in Akuapem Hills </li></ul><ul><li>Located about 1.5 hours to the east of Accra </li></ul><ul><li>Building projects include: constructing housing & refurbishing schools and/or orphanages </li></ul>1st two weeks: Building Project
  6. 6. <ul><li>During the 2nd two weeks students will assist staff at an Orphanage in Cape Coast </li></ul><ul><li>Located about 2.5 hours to the west of Accra </li></ul><ul><li>Students will organize various activities: arts & crafts, sports, dancing, and English lessons </li></ul>2nd two weeks: Orphanage Project
  7. 7. <ul><li>Lodging is provided by Projects Abroad </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Students will live with host families in order to experience Africa on a deeper level </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Host families are assessed by Projects Abroad and are commonly teachers or other civil servants </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>2 - 3 students and 1 GBA staff member per host family </li></ul></ul>Lodging Kentampo Falls

  9. 9. <ul><li>Students will drum with local instructors 4 - 5 nights a week for the duration of the trip </li></ul><ul><li>At the end of the trip students will bring home the drum they used in the workshop </li></ul>Drumming Workshop Pana-fest + Students will teach the rhythms they know and learn new ones

  14. 14. <ul><li>A Yellow Fever vaccination is required for entry into Ghana </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Must show proof with upon entry </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Vaccinations recommended by CDC: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, Meningitis, Rabies, and Polio </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Hepatitis dosing can take 6 months </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Routine inoculations should be up-to-date </li></ul><ul><li>Students must take an anti-malaria regiment a little before, during, and a little after the trip </li></ul>Vaccinations Click syringe for the CDC webpage for Ghana
