  1. 1. INTERFAITH WEDDINGS Catholic Christian and Buddism wedding
  2. 2. Catholic Christian Wedding ◦ Marriage in the Catholic Church, also called matrimony, and which "has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament between the baptized”. ◦ Catholic Christian Weddings follow the Catholic martrimonial law, based on the Roman Law, became the basis for marriage of all European countries, at least up to the Reformation.
  3. 3. How to plan a Catholic Christian Wedding ◦ Take time to prepare and plan ◦ Three forms of the Rite of Marriage ◦ Take advantage of options ◦ Learn the Catholic marriage law and doctrine ◦ Take notice of the ritual
  4. 4. Buddhism Wedding ◦ The Buddhist view of marriage considers marriage a secular affair and as such, it is not considered a sacrament. Buddhists are expected to follow the civil laws regarding marriage laid out by their respective governments. ◦ While the ceremony itself is civil, many Buddhists obtain the blessing from monks at the local temple after the marriage is completed
  5. 5. How to plan a Buddhism Wedding ◦ Find a temple or authorized monks. ◦ Before a shrine specially erected, complete with a Buddha image, candles and flowers, the bridal couple and assembly should recite the Vandana, Tisarana and Pancasila in English or Pali. ◦ The couple should light the candles and incense sticks and offers the flowers placing them on and around the table on which stands the image. ◦ The bride and groom should then, in turn, recite the traditional undertakings expected of them as found in the Sigilovdda Sutta ◦ Finally, the assembly or perhaps the parents only, should recite the Mangala Sutta and Jayamangala Gatha as a blessing.
  6. 6. Catholic Christian and Buddhism Wedding ◦ In case 1: If the couples keep their religious ◦ They cannot married in a Catholic church nor Buddhism temples ◦ They just can get married with the civil marriage law in the countries they are living. ◦ If the Catholic Christian one still wants to have a religious ceremony, he/ she can ask the parish to have a normalize marriage. ◦ The Church will consider their wedding as invalid unless the dispensation happened which can only be granted in certain conditions.
  7. 7. Catholic Christian and Buddhism Wedding ◦ In case 2: The Buddhist wants to have a conversion ◦ In this case, the Buddhist wants to be a Catholic Christian, he/ she will register for Catholic doctrine lessons at the local parish. After baptized, the couple can get married in Catholic Church with the sacrament. ◦ In case 3: The Catholic wants to have a conversion ◦ In this case, the couples can celebrate their wedding without any religious involved. The wedding will be granted base on the local marriage laws. If they want, they can have their wedding in temples or pagoda.
