Technical Recommendations
(forward these to your webmaster/web development team)
• Address all 27 broken links
Fix these links by creating new content and restoring the pages which no longer exist,
or redirect these pages to related pages that do exist on your domain.
• Set up 301 redirects for pages that no longer exist or that have been
permanently moved.
This form of redirect is recommended as it will preserve the SEO benefit from any existing
links to these pages and also keep users who reach these pages on your site.
• Prioritize and address accessibility issues: more than 400 errors
found
These issues include incorrect image attributes, improperly nested Header tags (H1, H2,
H3, etc.), and table/frame attributes. These elements are used by search engines to
understand non-text content and factor into search rankings.
30. NOVEMBER 14, 2011
Technical Recommendations
(forward these to your webmaster/web development team)
• Address compliance issues in order of relevance and importance
Issues include potential violations regarding the use of the registered trademark
symbol (R) and also privacy issues due to newsletters and the collection of personal
information. A privacy policy might be required for some pages.
• Prioritize the 912 W3C validation issues and address the most
urgent
These issues mostly include minor HTML/CSS errors that may or may not affect SEO
for each page. Check the most important pages with errors first.
• Ensure universal browser accessibility
Some images and other attributes are not supported by older versions of Internet
Explorer (PNG images with alpha-channel transparency).
31. NOVEMBER 14, 2011
Technical Recommendations
(forward these to your webmaster/web development team)
• Review and prioritize 469 usability issues; address if relevant to
your audience
Issues include long URLs that might not translate well in emails or press releases,
pages more than 5 clicks away from the homepage, and pages with content that
might be difficult for some users to read or understand (particularly disabled users
accessing your website with special equipment).
• Renew Domain (set to expire on */*/20**)
• Address 20 pages with ASP.NET ViewState larger than 2K.
This issue can cause system instability and increased page load times, which is a
factor search engines use in their algorithms to rank pages.

Off-Page Recommendations
Inbound Link Building
Inbound links are a large factor in Google’s algorithm for ranking pages, as
they are a good indicator of a page’s “popularity” on the web.
There are a number of different ways to increase the number of inbound
links to your website:
• Leverage existing connections – are all of your subsidiaries and
partners linking to you from their websites?
• Blog commenting – find blog posts that are relevant to your industry.
Leave comments that include a link back to your site.
• Social media – leverage Facebook and Twitter to share links to your
most popular content.
• Requesting links – if a website is linking to your competitor’s webpage
but not yours, write the site owner an email: it never hurts to ask!
34. NOVEMBER 14, 2011
Next Steps
• Prioritize all issues
• Develop scope of work to address agreed upon issues
• Execute against a clearly defined timeline
