Weekly news from WCUMC Feb. 9 2014

  1. 1. Weekly News from WCUMC-2/9/2014 “Demz Da Rules” A look at rules and relationship in Galatians 4. Galatians 4:4-7 But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir. Two underlying elements in the debate between legalism and faith: rules and relationship. This brings up two questions: • If we are supposed to be free from the law, does that mean that we don’t need rules or that rules are bad? • Is it really rules versus relationship?
  2. 2. The two theorems: • God’s rules are good and we need them • It is not rules OR relationship, it is relationship and then rules The supporting corollaries: • God’s rules are consistent, but vary according to human ability to understand • Even Gods’ rules are not enough by themselves And in the end, we might extend our theorems with this conclusion: • God’s rules are naturally expressed in a relationship with God, made possible by the atoning sacrifice of Jesus … which was the plan all along. Join other parents as we lift up our grown children to the Lord in a special prayer service on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 7:00 PM in the Sanctuary. We will worship the Lord in song, read scriptures and hear testimonies. Rev. Larry and Audrey Eddings of Wind of the Spirit Ministries will lead us in a focused time of prayer and forgiveness. We will also gather in small groups to share and pray for one another. Com and pray with the power of God's Word over our adult children. We can rest in the providence of God as we turn our children over to His care. Questions? Contact Pastor Rick or Evelyn Carlson. If you have a specific issue that you would like to see addressed in the Prayer for Adult Children, please pass it along to the church. You do not need to include your name.
