Policy:• Any medication given to a newborn is verified by a second licensed nurse prior to administration.• This includes IM injections, IV push, and IV solutions.• Exclusions include initial: admission medications (eye prophylaxis, vitamin K), and routine vitamins.• Medication verification is documented in the computer under pharmacy in the comments section (i.e. verified by N. Nurse, RN).
