Fort wild flower

For Wild Flower is a community park in the Dallas suburb of Flower Mound with an interesting funding model. You'll see from the slides that individuals and businesses alike can sponsor the various park equipment and even the brick pavers and fence pickets.

The commemorative plaque credits the various politicians and business leaders that helped make the park a success, and could be a model for others trying to fund their own land purchases and park development.

  • Yvonne and I were there last weekend for our granddaughter’s 2nd birthday party, and I was so impressed with the playground, and more specifically the funding model, that I took these pictures.
Fort Wild Flower is a community playground in the Dallas suburb of Flower Mound. It’s nestled in Heritage Park, a mostly completed 94-acre signature park located at the northwest corner of Garden Ridge Boulevard and Spinks Road. The park includes multi-use trails, an amphitheater, a duck pond, nature signage, benches, picnic areas, restrooms, parking spaces, a botanical garden, scenic overlooks, a service area with greenhouses and an outdoor classroom. It also features a disc golf course, skate park, dedicated conservation area, dog park, and open space for play.
A promotional website ( was instrumental in getting community buy-in, volunteers, donations, brick & picket sales, and sponsorships, which ranged from $500 to $20,000 and up. The website includes other photos, mostly of the construction process and grand opening, but it seems to have not been updated since the park opened and fundraising was no longer needed.
