  2. 2. 1 Then all the people of Judah tookUzziah, who was sixteen years old,and made him king in place of hisfather Amaziah.2 He was the one who rebuilt Elathand restored it to Judah afterAmaziah rested with his ancestors.
  3. 3. 3 Uzziah was sixteen years old whenhe became king, and he reigned inJerusalem fifty-two years. Hismother’s name was Jekoliah; shewas from Jerusalem.4 He did what was right in the eyesof the LORD, just as his fatherAmaziah had done.

As long as he sought theLORD, God gave him success. 6 He went to war against thePhilistines and broke down the wallsof Gath, Jabneh and Ashdod. Hethen rebuilt towns near Ashdod andelsewhere among the Philistines..
  5. 5. 7 God helped him against thePhilistines and against the Arabswho lived in Gur Baal and againstthe Meunites.8 The Ammonites brought tribute toUzziah, and his fame spread as far asthe border of Egypt, because he hadbecome very powerful.
