Discover how, by following a specific strategy, I grew my organic search traffic by 1465% in just 12 months.
That’s 16x the amount of traffic.
Here’s the data:
12 months ago, 52 visitors from search
Last month, 814 visitors
So what’s the strategy?
Creating and publishing content to my blog on a weekly basis
Sharing it on social
Plus some magic sauce!
What’s the magic sauce?
1. A specific content creation strategy
2. Repurposing the content.
Turning posts into articles
Presentations for SlideShare
Videos for YouTube
Advantages of content repurposing:
Builds a rounded link profile - helps my rankings!
Attracts high quality traffic in its own right (eg. YouTube’s the 2nd largest search engine, SlideShare is in the top 200 sites worldwide)
More content to share on social and keep my business front-of-mind
Content Creation Strategy
5-point content creation strategy to maximize my search visibility.
Helpful for reaching the maximum number of people
Can help indicate a particular keyword to focus on, with higher ranking and traffic potential
Use Yoast (Wordpress plugin) to optimize the post
But always write for the reader, not the search engines! (Actually helps rank better longer term).
2. Create Longer Content
Research shows longer content ranks better on search
Why? A couple of possible reasons:
Longer content keeps people on the page for longer periods, helping rankings
It provides more value and more reasons for other sites to link to and share the content, again helping rankings
Focus on creating posts at least 2000 words long.
Even 3000 to 5000 words or more!
Stretch a thin topic to breaking point just to reach a predefined word count!
Write on a topic that’s meaty enough to reach a high word count naturally
Provide lots of value to the visitor by:
Going into the topic in depth
Providing as much helpful info as possible
3. Use Images
Always add images into the post
And a Featured Image!
A Featured Image:
Helps with social engagement - more click-throughs, shares, and so on
Helps when repurposing the content, for example use it as:
The thumbnail for a YouTube video
The cover page for a SlideShare presentation
The cover image when posting to LinkedIn Pulse and elsewhere
