  1. 1. He recognized the quirky, intricate toys out of China and Japan as works of popular art, pieces that mixed many aesthetic movements he loved - - including fashion, cartoons, graffiti, comics, music, and fine art...founding Kidrobot in a California garage in 2002.
  2. 2. “It was pretty tough at the beginning explaining to people what my company actually was going to do. ‘I am creating a company called Kidrobot, which will sell limited edition vinyl toys, designed by graffiti artists, poster artists, and fashion designers, to adults for inordinate sums of money.’ Try bringing that to a bank for a loan!
  3. 3. People would ask, ‘are they art or are they toys?’, and I’d say, ‘Both, and selling them is part of the artwork too.’
  4. 4. On Tour... Jesse Hernandez’s art combines traditional indigenous styles and themes with an urban street sensibility. His work utilizes bold line work, sharp colors, and dynamic imagery across many different mediums, most widely known for his custom painted toys, illustration, and canvas work.
  5. 5. “With names like Picasso, Banksy, Van Gogh, and Warhol, looming over us…one’s “talent” can often be undermined by one’s own self doubt. Here’s where Kid Robot comes in and says…Hey man, it’s ok, do whatever you want. I’ll give you the tools and a hug and let you know that whatever you do…it’s ok and even beautiful…because you’re participating.”
  6. 6. “It takes a lot these days to become a household name… And as I looked around me there was no doubt in my mind that I was witnessing a phenomenon.” BY Cate FOR LA2DAY.COM Mar 30, 2007
