Prospective Student Interview

  1. 1. Welcome Prospective Student Interview

Setting up an Interview <ul><li>The Office of Admission will alert you if a student has requested an interview and give you the student’s contact information </li></ul><ul><li>Please contact the student within 24 hours to set up the interview </li></ul><ul><li>Inform the student that you are a Canisius College alumni and the Office of Admission asked you to contact them </li></ul><ul><li>Do not contact the student more than three times to set up the interview. If the student does not respond, contact Valerie Nugent </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>Schedule the interview to take place in a public place (coffee shop, library, bookstore) </li></ul><ul><li>Discuss how you and the student will find each other at the location of the interview </li></ul><ul><li>Inform the student that his/her parents are welcome to meet you and ask questions after your interview with the student </li></ul><ul><li>Notify the student that the interview will take 30-45 minutes </li></ul><ul><li>Share the date and time of the interview with Valerie Nugent so she can update the student’s admission file </li></ul>Setting up an Interview

During the Interview <ul><li>Remind parents that you will be happy to speak with them after the interview </li></ul><ul><li>Start with light conversation to make the student feel more at ease </li></ul><ul><li>There are no required questions that you must ask </li></ul><ul><li>Use open-ended questions to get more details from the student </li></ul><ul><li>Always as the student if he/she has any questions at the end of the interview </li></ul>

Tips to Remember <ul><li>Dress professionally </li></ul><ul><li>Refer a student to the Office of Admission if you do not know how to answer a question </li></ul><ul><li>Do not speak poorly of other colleges or universities </li></ul><ul><li>Do not guarantee a student admission, a merit scholarship amount or a specific financial aid package </li></ul><ul><li>Be friendly, genuine, and excited about Canisius College </li></ul>

After the Interview <ul><li>Fill out the evaluation provided by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and send it to Valerie Nugent </li></ul><ul><li>Fill out the evaluation with as much detail as possible; your notes will be included in the student’s admission file </li></ul><ul><li>Send the student a note card (provided by the Office of Admission) </li></ul>
