Deconstruction of one poster

 1. 2. Black and white photograph Setting : beach Man and women together Title Tagline Quote Certificate Signature Credits Rating Background
 2. 3. Black and white photograph

The clothes look like they are from the eighties, this could be specifically done and might have one the changing event in the film to show how people where effected or reacted, for example the cold war stopped, so they include people watching the two presidents signing the treaty on the TV and the characters view on it.

 3. 4. Setting : beach

When you see a beach you think of summer, holiday, warm sun , and everything else you experience during the holidays. However in this photograph they are wearing jumpers that suggests its cold on the beach. This contradicts the way people think about beaches and want to know why they end up on a cold day at the beach.

 4. 5. Man and women together

The man and woman that are standing close together at the foreground could suggest they are a couple or closer by them standing so close. While the other man is standing further away from both of them but looking at them, this could be that he wants so longing or to be closer to the other people in the frame. By this composition, it could be introducing and idea in the viewers mind that some thing is going to happen between these three people.

 5. 6. Title

The font is a simple to read, probably arial or calibri to make it clear for the viewer. Almost all title are in capitals to be read easily and not mistake any words when they are joined up. The wording used creates an opposition where a stranger is negative and paradise and positive. This oppositions contrast the white and black colour.

 6. 7.

“ A New American Film” would refer to that its not a usual film but better and different in a way. New could mean modern American film during that period. This way the film could relate to a more during the time it came out instead of a film about the past. The tagline focus more on about the actual film then what is in it so this is shows the style of the film.

Tagline
 7. 8.

Pigeonholing is a term used to describe processes that attempt to classify disparate entities into a small number of categories. This means that the film has not just one genre or style but has different ones together like a hybrid. There should always be a name under the quote and what institution they are from. The sizing of the quote should be large enough to read but never larger than the title

Quote
 8. 9. Background

The background is white to following on from the photograph being black and white where this makes the poster easier to read and not to cluttered. The white connotes simplicity, cleanliness and purity. The human eye views white as a brilliant colour, so it catches the eye.

 9. 10. Certificate

This certificate identifies that is has been in certain film festival and probably won.

 10. 11. Signature

The signature might be of someone approval of the high standard this movie has made. Not all posters have this.

 11. 12. Credits

This a typical billing block or credits. There should always be the director production company, producers, writer, music and actors.

 12. 13. Rating

This a R which is American for under 17 this requires accompanying parent or adult guardian. So this would mean it is a has some content that wouldn’t be a appropriate for a younger audience.
