Every year international festivals host professionals - artists as well as critics - from various artistic fields </li></ul><ul><li>the Vilenica International Writers’ Gathering </li></ul><ul><li>the Ljubljana International Film Festival (LIFFe) </li></ul><ul><li>the Ljubljana International Biennial of Graphic Art </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>Ljubljana as a capital is undoubtedly the central site for festival activity, and its rich cultural life includes international festivals all year round . Some important international festivals also take place in the regions </li></ul><ul><li>Ljubljana Summer Festival </li></ul><ul><li>the Trnfest Festival </li></ul><ul><li>International Street Theatre </li></ul><ul><li>the Brežice Festival </li></ul><ul><li>the Lent Festival </li></ul><ul><li>the Rock Otočec - Festival </li></ul>

  11. 11. KURENTOVANJE at PTUJ <ul><li>The most important carnival event in Slovenia </li></ul><ul><li>Kurent or Korant is the most famous traditional carnival figure of the entire region . There are two types of Kurent: t he so-called &quot;feathery&quot; and the &quot;horned&quot; one. He wears sheep skin coat, around its waist hangs a chain with huge bells, heavy boots and gaiters protect feet, while the head is covered by a cap. A wooden club is normally carried in the left hand. </li></ul>

THE CERKNICA CARNIVAL <ul><li>On the first day the so-called Žaganje babe (Sawing the Old Hag). </li></ul><ul><li>Next day, t he main Carnival day, Cerknica becom es the capital city of fairy tales and play host to numerous fairy-tale creatures. </li></ul><ul><li>Typical for this carnival are also witches from the mountain of Slivnica </li></ul>

  15. 15. <ul><li>GIBANICA - tipical cake from Prekmurje </li></ul><ul><li>in english also: Over Mura moving cake  </li></ul><ul><li>Dough 8 cups flour 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 pint sour cream 2 cups milk (about), scalded 2 ounces yeast 3 egg yolks, beaten 1/4 pound sweet butter </li></ul><ul><li>Filling 1 1/2 pounds ground nuts 1 tablespoon honey 3 egg whites 1 cup granulated sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 cup heavy milk or cream 1/3 cup sweet butter </li></ul>
  16. 16. Traditional Homemade PIRHI EGGS The oldest tradition is to make dyed or painted chicken egg s PISANICE - Fragile and Beautiful Wax ornaments plotted with a &quot;pisalk a &quot; in which the y’re melting wax over a candle flame
