  2. 2. parKIng Why Smart Parking System? •The growing population of India has created many problems, •one of the challenging ones being car parking which we confront almost every day. •Besides the problem of space for cars moving on the road , greater is the problem of space for a parked vehicle considering that private vehicles remain parked for most of their time. •Roads are being built for cars to ply but are we also giving the vehicles enough space to park? •Parking is one of the major problems that is created by the increasing road track. •It is an impact of transport development. The availability of less space in urban areas has increased the demand for parking space especially in areas like Central business district.

Parking has some effects like congestion, accidents, pollution, obstruction to fire-fighting operations etc Congestion Parking takes considerable street space leading to the lowering of the road capacity. Hence, speed will be reduced, journey time and delay will also subsequently increase. The operational cost of the vehicle increases leading to great economical loss to the community. Accidents Careless maneuvering of parking and unparking leads to accidents which are referred to as parking accidents. Common type of parking accidents occur while driving out a car from the parking area, careless opening of the doors of parked cars, and while bringing in the vehicle to the parking lot for parking. Environmental pollution They also cause pollution to the environment because stopping and starting of vehicles while parking and unparking results in noise and fumes. They also aced the aesthetic beauty of the buildings because a car parked at every available space creates a feeling that building rises from a plinth of cars. Obstruction to firefighting operations Parked vehicles may obstruct the movement of firefighting vehicles. Sometimes they block access to hydrants and access to buildings.
  4. 4. Automatic multistoried car parking system helps to minimize the parking area. In the modern world where parking space has become a very big problem, it has become very important to avoid the wastage of space in modern big companies and apartments etc. in places where more than 100 cars need to be parked, this system proves to be useful in reducing wastage of space. This automatic car parking system enables the parking of vehicles, floor after floor and thus reducing the space used. Here any number of cars can be parked according to the requirement. These makes the system modernized and thus space- saving one.

Though parking has negligible effect on quality of transport but there is damage to the life of engine due to parking.   16. 16. The Multi-Parking system sometimes referred to as Rack and Rail type has been designed to automatically move the vehicles by lift which then transfers it to a waiting cart on one of the multi- levels. The carts then travel horizontally and place the vehicle in its appropriate slot. This system is suitable for middle and large-scale buildings as well as independent public parking garage. The multi-parker can accommodate as little as 20 vehicles to several thousand units. It is therefore suitable for large scale projects. It can move more than 2 vehicles at the same time for maximum efficiency.
  17. 17. The elevator type often called the Parking Tower, is designed to automatically move the vehicles on a pallet vertically on the elevator, it then transfers it horizontally left or right for storage. Very fast retrieval time is accomplished in less than two minutes. This system is suitable for medium or large scale buildings. It can also be used as a stand alone tower for a parking garage business. The car is park or moved automatically or semi-automatically (with some attendant action required) to its parking space. The space saving provided by the APS, compared to the multi-story parking garage,is derived primarily from a significant reduction in space not directly related to the parking of the car: Parking space width and depth (and distances between parking spaces) are dramatically reduced since no allowance need be made for driving the car into the parking space or for the opening of car doors (for drivers and passengers) No driving lanes or ramps are needed to drive the car to/from the entrance/exit to a parking space Ceiling height is minimized since there is no pedestrian traffic (drivers and passengers) in the parking area, and No walkways, stairways or elevators are needed to accommodate pedestrians in the parking area.
