This is a reminder of the brutality that was displayed by white american southern men and women who resided in the southern states during the Civil Rights Movement.

This is one of the most famous cases of racism and brutality in history. The boy they slaughtered was 14 years old.

This Presentation was developed and researched by one of my students as part of their US History's Course Semester Grade.

I was really proud of this student... This is something we should never forget.

  3. 3. <ul><li>Mamie till Mobley was born in Webb, Mississippi and graduated high school from Argo community in June 1940. She died from heart failure at the age of 81 on January 6, 2003. </li></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>Death- he was brutally beat, shot in the head, had a metal fan used for grinning cotton tied to his neck with barbed wire, and threw in the Tallahatchie river. </li></ul>His mother wanted a public/open casket funeral so every one could see the brutal murder Funeral services were held at Chicago Roberts temple church of god. Burial-burr oak cemetery. Emmett's body was found on august 31, 1955 .

  7. 7. <ul><li>Milam and Bryant are arrested for kid napping in Greenwood, Mississippi on august 29, 1955. </li></ul>Defense attorney- John C Whitten. September 1, 1955 Milam and Bryant were “fully prosecuted”. September 30, 1955 Milam and Bryant are released on bond. Charges are still pending. December 1980-Milam died of cancer. September 1990-Bryant died of cancer. Both in Mississippi. Shortly after court the defendants sold their story to a journalist. With a detailed account on how they brutally murdered Emmett Till.
  8. 8. <ul><li>Emmett suffered from polio as a child which left him with a persistent stutter. Emmett was killed because he whistled at a white woman in the grocery store. He didn’t understand white’s hate black’s. </li></ul>
  9. 9. In 1943 Emmett's father was drafted to the u.s army(world war 2). While serving in Italy he was convicted of raping two women and killing a third. He was executed by the army. Hanging near Pisa in July 1945. The army sent Mamie Louis's ring with his initial’s carved in it.
  10. 10. Many challenges in the area of Civil Rights have taken place throughout the United States; as well as, the world since Emmett Till’s brutal murder in 1955. It is important that as civilians living within the US we never forget those individuals like Emmett Till who died in vain as a representative for his race, culture, and country. Chelsea May - 2009
