  22. 22. I've started Homix with (almost) no competition
  23. 23. and I've closed it after one year only :)‏
  24. 24. - there is competition - OK, good start, means there are also some money in the market
  25. 25. gather as much data as you can about the competition
  26. 26. compete.com, alexa.com, forum members, blogs, crunchbase.com, your friends, support forums, RSS feed readers on their blogs
  27. 27. write down the numbers
  28. 28. does it still make sense for you ?

  30. 30. now do the planning !
  31. 31. “ hm..no programming yet, no money raising yet ?”

  33. 33. and use pen and paper, don't just keep the data in your mind
  34. 34. how many users you will have in 1 month ? 3 months ? 1 year ? 3 years ?
  35. 35. how much money you will make in 1 month ? 3 months ? 1 year ? 3 years ?

  37. 37. you can't do “educated guess” !
  38. 38. why do that anyway ?
  39. 39. you need to run a marathon, and not just the first 500 meters !
  40. 40. you need to get used to the numbers, you need to trust your projections
  41. 41. OK, * NOW * it's time for some programming :)‏
  42. 42. build the simplest thing that works
  43. 43. and get out there to the users !
