Vintage james2 7.14.13

  1. 1. What good is it, my brothers & sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes & daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm & well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. JAMES 2:14-26
  2. 2. But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, & I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—& shudder. You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? JAMES 2:14-26
  3. 3. Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith & his actions were working together, & his faith was made complete by what he did. And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, & it was credited to him as righteousness,” & he was called God’s friend. JAMES 2:14-26
  4. 4. You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do & not by faith alone. In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies & sent them off in a different direction? As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead. JAMES 2:14-26
  5. 5. ISAIAH 58:6-7 Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice & untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free & break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry & to provide the poor wanderer with shelter— when you see the naked, to clothe them, & not to turn away from your own flesh & blood?
  6. 6. ISAIAH 58:9b - 10 If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger & malicious talk, & if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry & satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, & your night will become like the noonday.
  7. 7. ROMANS 2:6* God “will repay each person according to what they have done.” *NOTE: Psalm 62:12; Proverbs 24:12
  8. 8. GALATIANS 2:6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor un-circumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.
  9. 9. MATTHEW 25:42-43 For I was hungry & you gave Me nothing to eat, I was thirsty & you gave Me nothing to drink, I was a stranger & you did not invite Me in, I needed clothes & you did not clothe Me, I was sick & in prison & you did not look after Me.
  10. 10. MATTHEW 7:21 Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven.
  11. 11. Mark 1:15
  12. 12. What is God Saying to me? What am I going to do about it?
  13. 13. Change of mind/ direction Belief put into tangible action
  14. 14. Use the learning circle to process & come to one specific action point on any “kairos” question” you’re facing right now, big or small… SOUL TRAINING EXERCISE
