ACTS 10:1-2At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius,a centurion of what was known as the ItalianCohort, a devout man who feared God with allhis household, gave alms generously tothe people, & prayed continually to God.
ACTS 10:3-6About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly ina vision an angel of God come in & say to him,“Cornelius.” And he stared at him in terror &said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him,“Your prayers & your alms have ascendedas a memorial before God. And now send mento Joppa & bring one Simon who is called Peter. He is lodging with one Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea.”
ACTS 10:7-16When the angel who spoke to him had departed,he called two of his servants & a devout soldierfrom among those who attended him, & havingrelated everything to them, he sent them toJoppa. The next day, as they were on theirjourney & approaching the city, Peter went upon the housetop about the sixth hour to pray.
ACTS 10:7-16And he became hungry & wanted somethingto eat, but while they were preparing it,he fell into a trance & saw the heavens openedand something like a great sheet descending, being let down by its four corners upon theearth. In it were all kinds of animals & reptiles& birds of the air. And there came a voice to him: “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” But Peter said, “By no means, Lord...”
ACTS 10:7-16“… for I have never eaten anything that iscommon or unclean.” And the voice cameto him again a second time, “What Godhas made clean, do not call common.”This happened three times, & the thingwas taken up at once to heaven.
ACTS 10:17-20Now while Peter was inwardly perplexed as towhat the vision that he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simons house, stoodat the gate & called out to ask whether Simonwho was called Peter was lodging there.
ACTS 10:17-20And while Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three menare looking for you. Rise & go down& accompany them without hesitation, for I have sent them.”
ACTS 10:28And he said to them, “You yourselves knowhow unlawful it is for a Jew to associatewith or to visit anyone of another nation, but God has shown me that I should notcall any person common or unclean.”
ACTS 10:34b-35Truly I understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears Him& does what is right is acceptable to Him.
ACTS 10:44-45While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. And the believers from among the circumcisedwho had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit waspoured out even on the Gentiles.
ACTS 11:17-18“If then God gave the same gift to them as hegave to us when we believed in the Lord JesusChrist, who was I that I could stand in Godsway?” When they heard these things theyfell silent. And they glorified God, saying,“Then to the Gentiles also God hasgranted repentance that leads to life.”
THE QUESTION OF Who is so different from you (or so despised by you) THE DAY… that God would have to show up in a vision in order for you to considerbuilding a relationship with them instead of shunning them?
1. What is God saying to me? QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER…2. What am I going to do about it?
